Bay follows the Hollywood action playbook to the letter. There really is one, breaking down the points in which you need to have an action scene in a film to the near minute, based on the optimal pacing to fit the attention span of the audience. Many modern action films are produced by laying out these action beats first, and then worrying about weaving plot between them to carry from one to the next.

It's reportedly common for studio producers to flip straight to the pages in a script that correspond to these preset action beats, and if there isn't an explosion within a page or two of that then they simply toss the script in the trash because the writer clearly doesn't know how to tell an action story. Never mind the idea of action scenes coming naturally from a strong, logical plot line...

How is it that no one talks about how they turned Optimus in straight up murderous nutcase? He straight up executes two already defeated opponents in cold blood. Yeah, great leader who shoots one of his own kind in the face when he's already been defeated. It would be like Superman at the end of the day just broke Zod's neck, there would be million of outraged fans.

Yeah not much else can be said about these films. They are god awful, poorly made, and appeal to the lowest common denominator. I think what really gets me is that these films could have easily been good. Theres a lot to work with and as a fan it sucks to see the series like this.

@DarthSandwich yeah that was one of my gripes with the series. I understand its a war but Optimus only killed when he had to. The reason for his restraint was so he wouldnt become like Megatron and also he realized he was aiding in the extinction of his own race.

How do these movies make money? I mean, people like them and pay to see them and I'm wondering how exactly. I saw the first half of the first one and left the theater and I haven't seen a minute more of any of them. I don't know anyone who has seen them in real life and on this site everyone seems to hate them. So is there a Bay appreciation website somewhere with a few million people commenting constantly?

Also, if you like these movies, what is the appeal? Is it just robots or is there something else to appreciate in these movies?

Speaking as a Transformers fan... I'm not watching this...

These movies are fun. Plain and simple. There's nothing else to discuss. You can whine about lack of cohesive plot(which there is one, it's just stupid every time), you can whine about too many humans...you can whine about bad acting...whatever.

These movies are fun. What more need be said? Anyone that walks into a Michael Bay film knows what to expect. They are ALL filled with jaw-dropping action and VFX, a little bit of eye candy, and a simple story. That's it. This will not change.

These movies are fun.

And to anyone that whines that Michael Bay is ruining your favorite childhood characters, [frick] off. Those cartoons are the epitome of cheesy, stupid kids' stuff. It's terrifying when Michael Bay actually ADDS intelligence to a property.

Personally for me, it's one of the few films where I like simply for the mindlessness. After you stop expecting anything from it, it becomes a lot easier to enjoy.

@Guardian - Okay that's fair. I remember finding the action confusing to the point where I didn't know what was even happening. I'm sure I will give them a shot some time.

@MercwithMouth I imagine you're not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Just because you keep saying, "These movies are fun," doesn't make it true. By the way, that's the definition of a vapid statement and neither contributes to any sort of argument for the quality of the movies nor does it even prove your main thesis that these movies do anything that we should recognize as "fun," whatever that bland word means.

In other words: You are wrong, my anonymous friend.

But shout out for Milwaukee.

@They admittedly were not TF fans growing up, and they did review TF Dark of the Moon, but each of them only watched part of the movie before tagging another person in. I'd say the "nerd community" does enough harm to itself.

Ugh. What a bunch of dicks.
This is the type of person who watches a movie to hate it. They were never going to like it, they were writing their 'review' and laughing to themselves in their heads as they watched it rather than actually paying attention.

How do you LAUGH at the end of DotM? And not just laugh, but hysterically lose it? That was a very real and serious character moment built up through the whole story and climax, and they play it off like it was a random idea.

Well after 3 Transformer movies I am done. Not planning to see the new one or TMNT.

Maybe if a large group of us stop putting up with this crap, then the studio will pick another director (problaby when they get to the 5th reboot....)

What I don't get is that everyone involved has to know that they are making these movies without a real story yet they make the run-time almost 3 hours regardless! How is that necessary?!?!
MercwithMouth
MercwithMouth - 6/25/2014, 11:34 AM
@Psychotic

Well, thank you for that wonderful breakdown of one sentence. Did you bother to read the rest of my comment? Or did the small words in that repeated sentence keep grabbing your attention?

Yes, the Transformers movies are fun. It's a statement that stands for itself. There's no hidden meaning behind it, and of course it doesn't speak to the quality of the films. As you likely didn't notice, nowhere in my comment did I say the movies are good. I simply stated that they are Michael Bay movies. As such, most people should understand what they are walking in to. If you're not familiar with his work, I suggest you keep it that way, as you'll be disappointed.

So, to inform you again, these movies are just good fun. Go in, shut your brain off , and watch the explosions and giant robots. It's not exactly deep storytelling with compelling characters. It's just a summer blockbuster. Not like they've ever claimed to be more.

So, in closing, there is no WRONG when it comes to opinions on movies, as the enjoyment or dislike is completely subjective. Now do me a favour and...

Second Pacific Rim, Avatar, Avengers are summer blockbuster and dum movies, but they are great movies unlike Transformers because they give us what we want unlike transformers

I just wanted to chime in and say all 3 of these guys are F*ing idiots who wish they could have a 1/3 of Michael Bay's bank account. Everyone wants to bash Bay but guess what trolls, he is living his dream and making billion dollar movies and making tons of loot.
