Invincible arrived on Prime Video last year to widespread critical acclaim and an overwhelmingly positive response from fans of Robert Kirkman's hit comic book series (you can read our review here). It didn't take long for the streaming service to announce plans for a second and third season, though there's still no official word on when we can expect to see the show return.
Earlier this week, we spoke to showrunner Simon Racioppa about serving as an executive producer on The Boys Presents: Diabolical. All eight episodes of the animated anthology arrive on Prime Video this Friday, March 4, but we also made sure to get an update from Simon about Invincible's future.
"You can see all the books right there. My collection!" he says in the video below, pointing to his bookshelf. "We’re working hard on it. The one thing I’d tell people is we’ve been working hard on it for a longer period than they think. A lot of people assume we’ve just got started on it, and that’s not true. We’ve been working on it for a while now. But, it’s a big show. To do it properly takes time."
"We’re still in the pandemic. We’re hopefully coming out of it, but that makes things a little slower too. Everybody is working very hard on it; I think you’re going to be very happy with it. I hope so. We want to make it as badly as everyone wants to see it. We’re deep in. I wish it was already done and I wish it was finished, but it’s just not. We’re deep into it; literally, this afternoon, that’s what I’m doing - more work on that show! Right after these interviews, I’m back on to Invincible."
The wait for more Invincible may not be an easy one, but The Boys Presents: Diabolical should go some way towards filling the void. Both shows feature heaps of violence, all while tackling a lot of timely and relevant themes, and as we noted in our review of the spinoff series, "there are enough gloriously twisted ideas in this brutal, bloody, and surprisingly thought-provoking anthology series to make it essential viewing for fans of The Boys." As for Invincible, we'll no doubt get another update soon.
