Apparently PREACHER Is Looking To Cast An African American Actress As 'Tulip'

Short of some interesting Twitter teases from Seth Rogen, we don't have many details on the small-screen adaptation of Preacher he's currently working on with writing partner Evan Goldberg. We figured it'd be a while before any official casting news came our way, but (though we don't have any names just yet) we might have some info on how AMC and co. are looking to cast one of the main characters. According to Superherohype, Jesse Custer's gun-toting girlfriend Tulip O'Hare is to "receive a change to her ethnicity", and will be played by an African American actress. So you can scrap your current fan-castings and start again! Who would be your ideal pick for this role? What about Jesse and Cassidy? Preacher will be produced by Goldberg and Rogen through their Point Grey banner, along with Neal Moritz’s Original Film. The pilot was written by Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) and has Rogen and Goldberg attached to direct.

And the race of the actress matters why? We've had Iris West, Hemidell, Nick Fury, Johnny Storm, Jimmy Olsen, Ra's al Ghul, Perry White, Harvey Dent, Kingpin, Electro, and others had race changes.

Who gives a [frick] about race changes if the actor or actress is good and they capture the spirit of the character?

So long as Cassidy is still Irish, I don't really mind. Tulip's ethnicity is irrelevant to her character

Just cast Cassidy as a Mongolian Hermaphrodite.. why? Because progress. We cant leave out the Mongolian Hermaphrodite community.

@kevberg

Why? If it wasn't for Seth Rogan who wrote, started, and directed The Dictator; North Korea would never be mad at Sony and Spidey would never be at Marvel.

Dude got Spidey back at Marvel.

As long as Cassidy is Irish I don't give a f uck! Tulip could totally be cast as with a black actress. Jesse probably does have to be white, because he goes against the racist stereotypes of good 'ol boy Texans, it's his character.

Saint of Killers will now be played by a albino Ugandan with a peg leg. [frick] it. Why not?

Wow. Race change article click-bait for a character whose ethnicity doesn't matter is click-bait.

Tulip' race is irrelevant. Cassidy being Irish is part of his character and history. Jesse kind of has to be white, since the basis for his character is that he's kind of a throwback to the typical Texan Hero archetype.

Let it be known that Trudy is getting upset over this news but didn't give a rats ass that Heimdall (a character in his precious MCU) is played by a black actor...

Just throwing that out there.

DanielSipprelle, find out what click-bait is and come back to me. This is a piece of news about the casting of one of the main characters in the Preacher tv series, but I shouldn't have covered it because...why? Some racists will inevitably crawl out of the woodwork?

You know I honestly don't even know why I'm on this thread. It's obvious that this will turn into a shit-storm of closeted racism.

Peace out CBM.

Heimdall was and is a background character. But you have a point. I am willing to give MCU a long leash because they mostly behave themselves.

So long as the race of the character is not completely engrained in their backstory, it's all good. Black Panther...can't be white. Cap...mikely couldn't be black.

The only change in all of CBMs that bothers me is Heimdall. This is "the whitest of all Gods" and has been since the beginnings of Norse mythology. It's a huge disservice to the mythology. That being said...it's just a [frick]ing movie, so I don't care that much.

With this...I couldn't possibly care less. I likely won't watch anyways, since I can't really stand anything Seth Rogen has ever done. I may give it a shot though.

Is this really about diversity? where are the asian american character changes?

Are poeple even aware that sprinkling african-american characters all over those comic-movie franchises is merely a strategy to optimize box office results?

I just cant wrap brain around a black chick named Tulip O'HARE.. That would be like casting a white chick with the name of Moesha Rodriguez
