Is Lauren Cohan Leaving THE WALKING DEAD? Here's An Update An Her Status After Season 8
Season nine of The Walking Dead is going to have a new showrunner but will her first job be to kill off Lauren Cohan's Maggie Greene? Here's an update on where her negotiations with the network stand.
Earlier this month, we learned that Lauren Cohan may be considering leaving The Walking Dead because AMC isn't willing to pay her the same amount of money as co-stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus. Fans were understandably upset by the news, especially as it seems she's already courting other networks for pilot season. Well, we have an update and it's thankfully a positive one.
Multiple sources tell TV Line that Cohan is now in active negotiations with AMC to extend her current The Walking Dead deal into season nine and beyond. Apparently, she's made no indications that she's planning on leaving and with production not set to begin until May, she has plenty of time to ink a deal.
The Walking Dead has already lost Chandler Riggs and Cohan not coming back would be a huge blow to the series which is already dropping viewers on a week by week basis due to some suspect creative decisions. The show is also lacking in strong female characters, so it would be to the show's benefit to keep Maggie around. Either way, expect big changes with Angela Kang taking over as showrunner.
