Is Gambi (James Remar) dead?

That's the question of the day, as Black Lightning really made a concentrated effort to convince viewers that Jefferson's (Cress Williams) oldest ally had indeed perished in a car explosion.

However, all hope is not lost and there's plenty of reason to believe he could've survived his fiery fate - especially considering that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) did manage to escape a similar situation.

Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a New Orleans neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life on the line, and seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and settled into being a principal and a dad. Choosing to help his city without using his superpowers, he watched his daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) grow into strong young women, even though his marriage to their mother, Lynn (Christine Adams), suffered. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the crosshairs of the menacing local gang The One Hundred, Black Lightning returns — to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.

Black Lightning features:
Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning
China Anne McClain as Jennifer Pierce
Nafessa Williams as Anissa Pierce/Thunder
Christine Adams as Lynn Pierce
Marvin "Krondon" Jones III as Tobias Whale
Damon Gupton as Inspector William Henderson
James Remar as Peter Gambi
Jordan Calloway as Khalil Payne/Painkiller

Honestly this was the weakest episode of the season so far. Extremely slow and uninteresting for much of it. Not that the episode is written poorly, but its just subpar compared to previous stuff from this show. As of now, the first 5 episodes of this season are weaker overall than the first 5 episodes of season 1. And we are over a third of the way down with this season and I still don't feel like we have really gotten very far. Hopefully the rest of the season picks up.

The beginning with the 'Winter Soldier' scene with Gambi was good, but I am not buying it at all that Gambi is dead. No way. A lot of people are referring to"Gambi's death" but a) we didn't see a body, and b) Gambi clearly crashed the vehicle on purpose.

Wasn't quite feeling Anissa with Grace. Grace was totally right with her description of Anissa too. And Grace's powers are really weird. Also, I think this is the first non-black person on the show to get powers, right? Syonide doesn't really count since she was just modified.

Two Bits was funny, nice to see him again.

Jennifer unable to avoid Khalil, its getting old because its a pretty stupid action on her part.

Jace tricking Lynn into running the experiment and killing off half of the pod kids, that was cold. And some crazy shit going on at the end. Love how Anissa was like "aww hell no" and got the hell out of there. Lol

Overall, an okay episode.

Next week's episode looks like it will pick up with the pacing and action, thankfully.

So far this week. I could flip BL and Supergirl; the former was written better, but the latter was more interesting/exciting.

1. Arrow- great
2. Legends- good
3. Black Lightning- okay
4. Supergirl- okay
5. Flash- mediocre

Nice cool opening for the "Book of Blood".

No body, so Gambi's supposed death isn't confirmed. The entire scene reminded me of the chase from The Winter Soldier and the way I see it, Gambi knew they would get to him eventually so his one and only choice was to make them believe he met his end when he weave in and crashed outside of the road. I wonder how he'll comeback and when.

Plus without him who will give Jennifer her suit when she's ready?

Seeing Anissa do some nursery work was refreshing instead of just Thunder-ing.

Speaking of her after this episode she is my 2nd favourite right behind Jefferson. Walked away from Khalil in the flashback were we left off and ignored his calls most of the time and she was thoughtful enough about how her dad was handling Gambi's "passing".

Lynn made a mistake by bringing that watch to Jefferson, he was compartmentalizing his feelings and also in denial. Bringing that straightforwardly to him was not what he needed, even if her intentions were the best.

Dr. Jace is the worst, seriously. Just 14 Green Light Babies left standing because of her. Bet that now the ASA will step in sooner or later to pick them up. But at least now we could start to focus on those remaining ones and flesh them out once they're out of the pods now that they are alive.

Jefferson had every right to KO that harasser at the bar, so Henderson's comment weren't that needed anyway. Plus he needed to vent.

The ASA definitely were behind the attack on Gambi, now that Fowdy died and passed on the little tease of the content of Proctor's briefcase, which are still in Tobias' power. And speaking of him he now controls that councilman. Said councilman wasn't anywhere subtle about who the new donor was in his choice of words.

Tobias' salt over Syonide's death is over 9000, Jesus. Khalil is never gonna stop hearing the end of it.

I liked that Grace made things clear with Anissa, she just can't use a moment of vulnerability like here to hook up seeking comfort. Curious about her weird powers and if it is related to that silver goo on that dead boyfriend and that sheriff in South Freeland. Both of them being introduced at the same time must hint at a connection.

Finally some new things are happening.

Good Arrowverse week. Just need Legends to address who their main villain is once and for all to caught up with the rest in that department because they all have been dealing with them since their new storylines began.

@NinnesMBC - the only shows in the Arrowverse that have consistently been dealing with their main villain since episode one of the new season is Arrow and Supergirl.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Somehow, I think Lex Luthor will end up being the big bad on Supergirl this season (as others on here have said). That would be great.
As you suggest, I don't think they have revealed the big bad for Flash this year (it's not Cicada; it feels too much like the season Dr. Alchemy was framed as the big bad for the season but was not).

@tugboy - hmm, would be interesting if Cicada isn't the big bad. Haven't considered that yet.

And I've been saying that too that Lex Luthor will likely be the puppet master this season, being set up for a 5th season show down perhaps.

@SuperCat - if only... Nothing like seeing a person who holds the most powerful, respected position in the world mocking disabled or handicapped people, let alone veterans.

Meh, lost interest after first episode anyways. Glad others are still enjoying it. No more Legends either.
