SyFy has debuted (via TV Line) the first official key-art for their upcoming Superman prequel series, Krypton.

The poster gives us a new look at Cameron Cuffe as The Man of Steel's grandfather Seg-El, as he stands in the middle of the iconic "S" symbol holding a very familiar-looking cape. Over the course of the series, Seg-El will be pulled into a power struggle among the doomed planet's elite classes.

Krypton is set to premiere on March 21, and also stars Krypton stars Georgina Campbell, Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Aaron Pierre, Ian McElhinney, and Shaun Sipos. The show is executive produced by David S. Goyer.

It is a cool picture. I have to remind myself to see the 1st ep and what happens after.

At least it'll help me learn more of Krypton and some of it's lore characters because tracking down every single comic and reading isn't possible so at least there is that.

Smallville was fine with all the teases to Clark becoming Superman because it was about Clark....but this is ridiculous.

@Kevwebsz - "with all the teases to Clark becoming Superman"

And then he never became Superman. This looks interesting, it has the same aesthetic as Man of Steel, and time travel elements as well....could be cool.

Superman's story is exactly like Goku's. So let's hope that the series will be as good as Bardock.

I am intrigued by this show. The opening scene on Krypton was one of the best things in Man of Steel, and i'd be happy to explore more of that world.

Like the original pitches for Smallville and Gotham, I find something eminently interesting about taking a superhero world and exploring a real-world concept within it - in this case the political machinations of how a society's ruling class became so blinded by their own hubris that it eventually led to the destruction of their entire planet. If they can hit even 10% as good as Game of Throne's on the political scheming level, and hit the right balance of important social commentary without being too on-the-nose (i.e. the obvious global warming parallels), then this could be essential viewing.

As it is, I fully expect this show to start well, and then like Smallville and Gotham before it becoming increasingly desperate and start introducing Braniac, and Zod and Doomsday, and pretty much everything bar the kitchen sink, until we have that "Superman show without the Superman" that everyone dreads.

So... can someone explain to me why Mon-El has the same name as Superman's family, despite being from Daxom? Is "El" like "Smith" on Krypton?

I just figured out why he's named Seg-El. That took me way longer than it should've.

Maybe they can do a Amalgam style crossover with the Inhumans where they all meet on their way to the planet 'Cancellation'
