Another PEACEMAKER Star Has Been Confirmed For DC Studios' New DCU

DC Studios co-CEO and Superman: Legacy director James Gunn has confirmed that another Peacemaker star will make the leap from the DCEU to DCU, and you can find more details on who it is right here...

Earlier this week, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed that John Cena's Peacemaker, Viola Davis' Amanda Waller, and Xolo Maridueña's Jaime Reyes will all be part of the new DCU.

That lined up with what we'd already heard about the filmmaker's plans for this relaunch, though there are many fans questioning why these actors are being given a second chance when the likes of Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck are not. It is what it is at this point, but another name can now be added to the list of returnees.

Responding to a fan on Threads, Gunn confirmed that Peacemaker star Freddie Stroma is set to reprise his role as Vigilante.

This isn't a massive surprise because it was back in July when the director said we should expect to see the deranged anti-hero "probably before Peacemaker 2." We'd assume the idea is for him to show up in Waller, with that series bridging the gap between both seasons of Peacemaker

Chris Conrad was originally cast as Vigilante but left the series after shooting several episodes due to apparent creative differences. Stroma was then enlisted to replace him and received widespread acclaim for his work (despite this take on the character taking some liberties with the source material).

"Peacemaker quickly establishes itself as essential viewing for fans of The Suicide Squad," we said in our season 1 review"but it's a career-best performance from John Cena and the greatest opening credits of all time that will make sure you want to come back each week."

Peacemaker follows the explosive escapades of the character that John Cena reprises in the aftermath of Gunn's 2021 film The Suicide Squad - a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.

The cast includes John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Chukwudi Iwuji, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.

Gunn wrote all eight episodes of Peacemaker and directed five, including the first. Gunn, Peter Safran and Matt Miller serve as executive producers on the series, with John Cena as co-executive producer and Stacy Littlejohn as consulting producer. Based on characters from DC, Peacemaker is produced by Gunn's Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The series was renewed for a second season last February but doesn't have a confirmed release date (we're not expecting to see it for at least another two or three years). The first eight episodes of Peacemaker are currently streaming on Max.

Getting the clicks from haters by choosing a pic with Jennifer Holland in the focus. Such a journalist.

Am I the only one that hated Peacemaker? The story didn't hook me at all and the comedy felt forced and fell flat. I found myself not caring what happened to any of the characters. Because of that, when James Gunn was announced as head of the DCU my heart sank. I'm terrified what he's going to do with Superman. All this is not to say I don't like him or his work, the Gaurdians movies were great, but it concerns me when he's bringing along those actors from the DC projects he's done which to me were the wrong vibe and flavour of what the DCU should be.

@CuChulainn - Gunn’s humor tends to be hit or miss for me anyway but I did like the characters and their dynamics overall as well as their development for the most part.

Thought it was solid overall but to each their own.

@CuChulainn - you were not the only one.
There is not one thing I enjoyed about Peacemaker, I found everything about it mediocre.

I love Gunn's Suicide Squad though.

@CuChulainn - I didn't finish it, I probably need to before I pass judgement on the show but up until the point I stopped watching I wasn't impressed.

@CuChulainn - I loved both TSS and Peacemaker, but my heart still sank when he was chosen because I knew that these two DCEU projects would still be canon and that would make a pig's mess of the universe and force him to have an already established world instead of starting from scratch and establishing things properly like the MCU did.

As soon as he was announced I knew that the one shot DC had at a reboot was doomed. Everything that's happened since has slowly confirmed all of this and Superman Legacy will make it official.

@Usernametaken - I'm the reverse. The Suicide Squad was... fine, but obvious and bland and with no passion behind it. Peacemaker felt like a kick in the back after that.

Glad to hear it , he was great as this Deadpool-esque version of the character.

Part of me does wonder if the characterization was changed after Stroma was cast because I don’t see Chris Conrad (who was originally in the role) playing this version of Vigilante whose moreso a somewhat dim-witted sociopath.

Anyway , looking forward to seeing him more in the future!!.

I could see The Guardian in season two. He could be a parody of a scaut boy with an ultra-violent side.

@Forthas - Guardians 3 didn't have a goofball tone. It was actually very emotional and sad.
Forthas
Forthas - 9/29/2023, 8:33 AM
@Archgoat - It absolutley did! Not at the same level of the first two, or Thor Love and Thunder. But look at Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad.

This does not look like a goofball tone to you?

I enjoyed the peacemaker show despite the dumb intro dance. But is the DCU about to be filled with Napoleon Dynamite type characters? Because that’s what guns DC stuff felt like.

Umm Flash and Aquaman showed up in the last episode of season 1, so I kinda thought Peacemaker would go bye bye since it's clearly cemented in the Snyderverse. Unless Season 2 will actually be Season 1 now, ignoring what happened in the first season 1. I'm so confused...
