The pilot episode of
Swamp Thing is set to air at the end of the month, and DC Universe has now shared some promo images to give us a better look at the show's main players.
The first trailer for the series leaned heavily on horror, but we recently got a look at another
brief teaser which suggested that we'll also be seeing some of the more romantic elements that have become synonymous with the best comic book runs.
Most of these stills focus on Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) and Alec Holland (Andy Bean), but we also get another glimpse of Derek Mears as the comic-accurate creature of the title.

Alec Holland
In the comics, Alec Holland (Andy Bean) is shot and dumped in the swamp, before emerging as the monstrous Swamp Thing. This was later retconned by Alan Moore to make the creature an entirely new entity that had simply retained Holland's thoughts and memories, so it'll be interesting to see which route the show takes.
Abby Arcane
The show's female lead Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) is shown here about to perform an autopsy on a handsome fellow that was presumably pulled out of the swamp. Will whatever caused these abnormalities factor into the creation of the Swamp Thing?
Alec and Abby
Just as they do in the comics, Abby Arcane and Alec Holland will embark on a relationship that ends abruptly and tragically when the latter is lost to the swamp. They do pick things up once Holland reemerges as a huge, green monster... obviously.
Abby #2
Fans were a little disappointed that Abby wasn't given her trademark silver-streaked hair, but all it'll take is one good fright - something that this character is bound to endure at some point.
Swamp Thing
An awesome new look at Derek Mears in that comic-accurate, practical Swamp Thing suit. Will the Avatar of the Green start out as the antagonist of the story before his true nature comes to light?
The Swamp
Swamp Thing” centers on CDC researcher Abby Arcane (Reed). When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
Swamp Thing is being developed as a one-hour show, and has Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) and Gary Dauberman (It) on board to write the pilot. They'll also executive produce alongside Michael Clear and James Wan. Len Wiseman will helm the first episode.
