Deadline is reporting that Jennifer Beals (Taken; The Last Tycoon) has joined the cast of the DC Universe's upcoming Swamp Thing series in a key recurring role. She'll play Sheriff Lucilia Cable, who is being described as "tough as nails and pragmatic, Sheriff Cable’s fierce devotion to her son, Matt, is rivaled only by her sworn duty to serve and protect the town of Marais. As the community she has dedicated her life to defending is beset by strange forces, Lucilia must double down in her efforts to safeguard everyone she holds dear."

The veteran Beals joins a cast that already features up-and-comers Crystal Reed (Teen Wolf; Gotham), who is playing Abby Arcane, and Maria Sten (Channel Zero; Straight Outta Compton), who is playing Liz Tremayne.

The series is said to revolve around Arcane's investigation into a swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana, only to discover that the swamp in question actually holds mystical and terrifying secrets - one of which will presumably be the titular hero.

Further details are unavailable at this
point in time, but expect the series to go live on the DC Universe streaming service sometime in 2019.

@KWilly - Right? Like WTF.

Why would they re-release Deadpool 2... and it's PG-13? What?

I guess that makes sense why they brought Deadpool 2 to SDCC this past July. That was puzzling at the time.

@L0RDbuckethead - Try to squeeze as much money out of an already-produced film. Maybe it's a backdoor audition to keep the franchise alive as a PG-13 series under Disney's banner?

Maybe they desperately needed to move all of those projects forward and just needed something cheap to fill an obligation to theater chains?

@LEVITIKUZ - That show is already cancelled too, I believe. Only lasted 26 episodes. It featured a guy playing a young Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson from the originals).

Strange.

@L0RDbuckethead - The Taken TV Show was actually really well done. I wish it would have lasted longer. The first season premiered last year in February on Monday nights. Then when they brought it back they put it in death mode on Friday nights.

The original concept sounded good, but at the same time without Liam I wasn't looking forward to it. I watched because of being a fan of the 3 movies and really liked.

It's just like the Lethal Weapon TV series surprised me with the two they had in the roles and how the show is produced. Not sold on the no Riggs for this season, but the season premiere was well done so we'll see.

@batmbl - I only watched the first few episodes, but it definitely wasn't for me. Glad to hear it wasn't downright awful though.

Why did it get cancelled? They had to have been kinda iffy on it if they put it on Friday nights for S02.

@L0RDbuckethead - I think a lot of it was typical NBC not wanting to give it decent slot and seeing if it would sink or swim on Friday's. The "Constantine Syndrome" is what I call it in regards to NBC.

@batmbl - Lol yeah, that show had no place being on NBC in the first place. Glad he is a regular on LOT now. He fits in better there.

@L0RDbuckethead - I agree he never belonged there. NBC wanted a comic book show which I get, but choosing a magic based one although a great show wasn't the right choice as a first one for them.

I do wish this would have been on SyFy or USA instead of NBC in regards to the Universal networks. I would almost guarantee it would still be on SyFy and I'd give 50/50 to USA. I haven't been real happy with USA recently because they are canceling some of the best shows like Colony.

@Bakugo - There are probably better people for the post, but I don't want to do the work of figuring out who.

...And that's probably the exact reasoning that Alan Horn had.
