SWAMP THING Could Have Eventually Led To A JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Team-Up Series

More heartbreaking news for fans of DC Universe's cancelled Swamp Thing here, as insiders have revealed that the show might have eventually led to a Justice League Dark series. More past the jump...

We're still not sure exactly why Swamp Thing was axed after just one episode, but fans continue to show their support for the series and sign petitions in the hopes that Warner Bros. will reconsider the cancellation.

We can probably expect to see that kick up a few notches after the following report from Business Insider.

Although they don't really shed any more light on the reason for the cancellation, we do get an idea of what could have been if the show was allowed to continue. Apparently, Swamp Thing was envisioned as running for at least three seasons, and it also sounds like there were tentative plans to develop a Justice League Dark team-up series a la Marvel's The Defenders.

"One source close to the production told Business Insider that the show had a possible three-season arc, and the feeling on set was that it could have gone past that if it was a hit, with characters spinning off into their own shows. The source used the specific example of a potential “Justice League Dark” team-up series.

Does this mean the likes of Deadman, John Constantine, Shade the Changing Man and Zatanna would have been introduced at some point? That's obviously impossible to say now, but perhaps we will find out more once the powers that be break their silence and begin to divulge a few more details.

In the meantime, all we can do is hope that Swamp Thing finishes up in a relatively satisfying manner.

I would love another attempt at a Constantine limited series on HBO or on the WarnerMedia streaming service.

@Forthas - HBO isn't gonna do any superhero shows outside of Watchmen, and they only went ahead with that since it has one of their best show-runners on board. Outside of GoT season 8, HBO's quality control is unparalleled.

TFW a shitty, cheaply-produced Batman rip-off show generated a 7 year shared universe, but a good Swamp Thing show with great production values gets knee capped an episode in.

The constant uncertainty of DC's intellectual properties. Step up and help save DC's characters.

@WakandanQueen - Look, I'm super excited for that Dune movie but they're willing to invest a big budget into a show set in that world (for a film that might bomb), but the DC shows all have to look like the CW? What the [frick]. It's gonna be impossible to even try to compete with Marvel on the TV front if you're promoting shit like Batwoman and cancelling promising projects like Swamp Thin.

@tmp3 - The Greg Berlanti love over there is head-scratching.
At least we all know Watchmen will be spectacular.

@WakandanQueen - "At least we all know Watchmen will be spectacular."

Also... Justin Theroux as Dr. Manhattan for season 2? Assuming they go in that direction.

I'm glad that I didn't subscribe to the streaming service. WB still doesn't know what they're doing with DC.
