To say FX on Hulu's upcoming adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's seminal comic series Y: The Last Man has not had the smoothest of journeys to the screen would be an understatement, but filming kicked-off late last year, and we finally have a first teaser trailer for the show.
Unfortunately, it doesn't actually contain any footage!
Instead, the animated promo - which might well end up being used for the opening credits - outlines the premise, which sees practically every male mammal on the planet die suddenly and seemingly without explanation. The only survivors with a Y chromosome are a young man named Yorick Brown (Ben Schnetzer) and his pet monkey, Ampersand.
Eliza Clark took over from Michael Green and Aida Mashaka Croalin as showrunner last year, while Ashley Romans (I'm Dying Up Here; NOS4A2) and Olivia Thirlby (Dredd; Juno) were also brought in to replace originally cast Lashana Lynch and Imogen Poots as Agent 355 and Hero Brown, respectively.
No reason was given at the time, but chances are scheduling conflicts became an issue when production was delayed.
Louise Friedberg is directing the first two episodes from Clark's script. All Season 1 episodes will be helmed by women.
Y: The Last Man also stars Amber Tamblyn, Marin Ireland, Diana Bang, Elliot Fletcher and Juliana Canfield, and is set to premiere on September 13.
