FX on Hulu's upcoming small-screen adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's seminal comic series Y: The Last Man has not had the smoothest of journeys towards production, but filming is now finally underway in Toronto, Canada.
Y lost its original showrunner and star (Eternals actor Barry Keoghan) shortly after the pilot was picked up to series. Eliza Clark stepped in and Ben Schnetzer replaced Keoghan in the lead role of Yorick Brown, but work on the revamped series was then forced to halt due to the pandemic.
Things are obviously back on track, but two more key cast members have dropped out.
Deadline reports that Ashley Romans (I'm Dying Up Here; NOS4A2) and Olivia Thirlby (Dredd; Juno) have now joined the ensemble, and will replace originally cast Lashana Lynch and Imogen Poots as Agent 355 and Hero Brown, respectively. No reason was provided for this development, but chances are scheduling conflicts became an issue when production was delayed.
Louise Friedberg is directing the first two episodes from Clark's script. All Season 1 episodes will be helmed by women, but the other directors have not been revealed.
Y: The Last Man also stars Diane Lane, Amber Tamblyn, Marin Ireland, Diana Bang, Elliot Fletcher and Juliana Canfield.
