If your not exited for this, you should be. These epic, adult fantasy stories are a perfect fit for HBO. If you have never heard of this before, here is a synopsis..

Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens. Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.

I have only read the first book so far, and although it doesn't grip straight away, I'm glad I stuck with it. Can't wait for the show. Sean Bean as Eddard Stark is some of the best casting I have ever seen.

I'm stoked... It can't be worse than all the SyFy crap thats been put out there! Hopefully it'll go in a good direction, and not come off foul with sub par acting.

why am i just hearing about this show now?! this is fantastic!! love the books but a movie would never do it justice, tv is perfect. plus a channel like hbo would hold nothing back in its violence, gore, and sex. damn its been a while since i read the books, does anyone know if george rr martin ever got to publishing a dance with dragons??

@Jeremy. No a Dance with Dragons is still not out yet.

I just hope HBO actually finishes at least the first book. Between Dead Wood and Carnivale my faith in that happening is approaching zero.

I just picked up the first book this past week, i am half way through it (have to make time to study for finals). What i have read so far is amazing, just from that clip seeing the amount of work they have put into it and small details of the story that they showed i cannot wait till April. This is going to be epic.

@grif yeah i have a phobia of midgets as well but Tyrion is a bad ass. You will be surprised by the character, i am not a fan of that midget actor and his past roles but he was born to play this one.

I have been following this for some time now and I am stoked. The cast is phenomenal! Martin has been very "hands on" with the project, which should lend to being fairly true to the source material. HBO has put out quality series and this looks to fit that mold. We will get to see an epic fantasy that's not afraid to touch the darker side of the material.

It's Little People...people. Not midgets. ;-)

I'm a big fan of the 4 books out so far - I'm re-reading them now. It is one of the best fantasy series written in many years, but certainly not for the kids. It is a perfect fit for a series on HBO. The books are very cinematic in style, so the translation to the small screen should go well. The casting seems spot-on for the key roles. George R. R. Martin has given stong approval of this series, and since he has a lot of Hollywood credits, he knows how things work.

The magic in this series is not the main focus, but it is an important part of the background. It mostly focuses on intregue and strategy, with a lot of fighting and a certain amount of sex. The story is pretty complex, and there are tons of surprises along the way -- no key character is "safe." The women are just as important as the men, and not just "window dressing." Don't expect the standard, classic fantasy story. No "quest to find the magic widget" in this series.

I just hope that Martin can get back to finishing up "Dance with Dragons" when he is done with his involvement with this series. The HBO can do a series on Martin's "Wild Cards" books -- an adult alternative history with super powered people.
