Variety reports that HBO is developing another Game of Thrones prequel, this time based on the Tales of Dunk and Egg from author George R.R. Martin. Those follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and a young Aegon V Targaryen, and the story is set 90 years before the events of the main series.
We don't have a creative team for this one yet, but it sounds like a priority for the cable network.
HBO has, however, been meeting with a number of writers to hear pitches based on Martin's work, with one possible idea revolving around Robert's Rebellion, the war for the Iron Throne that threw Westeros into chaos decades before Game of Thrones takes place. This was an event that was frequently referenced, and we'd likely see younger versions of some familiar faces.
One writer who has met with HBO is Bruno Heller, and he's best known for shows like Gotham and Rome.
Those of you hoping to revisit Game of Thrones may be disappointed, though, as only prequels are currently being developed (not sequels and spinoffs). This isn't the first time HBO has focused on prequels, as they previously put five of them into active development. House of the Dragon is on the way, but a pilot starring Naomi Watts never moved forward.
Martin has published three novellas in the Tales of Dunk and Egg series - "The Hedge Knight," "The Sworn Sword," and "The Mystery Knight." Fans have been hoping they'll be adapted for a while.
