The success of HBO's Game Of Thrones has definitely not gone unnoticed in Hollywood. Not only is a big-screen take on the video game Warcraft on the way courtesy of Moon director Duncan Jones, but Fox also have a Magic: The Gathering film in the works -- and now Deadline report that they've hired a writer. The studio has set Bryan Cogman, a producer, story editor and writer on the HBO drama, to give the fantasy card game the movie treatment. President of Hasbro Studios Stephen Davis, CEO Brian Goldner and Wizards of the Coast CEO Greg Leeds will serve as executive producers. Aditya Sood and Josh Feldman, executives at Kinberg's Genre Films will also executive produce.

Never heard of this card game. But if it turns out half as good as "Game of Thrones," I'm in.

Magic: The Gathering: A Dungeon Siege Tale - Directed by Uwe Boll, starring The Transporter, Terminator T-X, and Hellboy, and other A-List actors who get sucked into doing shitty movies.

hard to get excited about a writer who has an amazing tv show because it is almost straight out of an already amazing book series doing an adaptation out of a card game. kinda just wait and see how it turns out.

MrSotoMan - Can you blame them? What happened after Super Mario Bros. would make any company lose interest in making movies out of their properties! Although it would be nice to see a Zelda movie, the pressure and hype would be waaaaayyyy too much for it. It's probably best to see Nintendos various IPs as cameos in other movies (i.e. Wreck-It Ralph), instead of them getting desecrated in their own movies.

I was wondering when Hasbro would license the rights to this. Hopefully Dungeons and Dragons will be the next Hasbro movie. This could be great. At least I hope so. I do enjoy a good fantasy film. So I'll hope for the best.

Fantasy films are really hit or miss. Both this project and the WoW movie could end up awesome or falling completely flat. Both these franchises also have a history in comic books, which makes them actually relevant here.

I love me a good fantasy flick so I'm rooting for this one.

@Solphins:
Heck, how Chandra (that's the burning red head up there) hasn't spawned a porn parody yet I'll never know. Especially since red magic is also literally tied into emotion and passion in the game (and action before thought and burning your face off of course, also: electrocution and stoning). Of course there's fan art by the bucket load in this direction already.

@BlackIce Joe - there's already been a few D&D movies. The first live action one had Jeremy Irons and Thora Birch in it, was alright warranted a straight to video sequel which was just alright too. There was a third straight to dvd one also which was alright and also a feature length animation of the first Dragonlance novel with the voice of kiefer Sutherland amongst the class. All enjoyable enough if you're into that type of thing but not stellar.

@OldBenKenobi

I never played it but, one of my favorite bookstores used to be besieged by these guys, on weekends, playing the shit out of it. They appeared to be enjoying it but, it never really appealed to me.

I don't play Magic. If the film is similar to Lord of the Rings then i might give it a chance. I know you can download Magic on the xbox live marketplace but it looks boring.
