AOA is still one of my FAV'S comic book reads ever. I still have all of the original single issues from the 90's.

I was just looking up AoA books on Amazon this morning. I want to get myself prepared for 2016 but I'm having a hard time figuring out what story arcs to buy. I currently own both Apocalypse Books 1 and 2 but I've heard that "executioners song" was great and a few others that I can't remember off the top of my head.

Wonder if we'll actually see Fassbender take lead of the X-Men come 2016.

@ TheBlackNerd

I apologize for the length of this response. But it's kind of a corollary to the subject matter. Confusing 90's X Men stuff is one of my comics specialties (don't judge - okay, judge). If you know this stuff already than consider this confirmation of what you know. If not, well I hope this helps. The best AoA stuff was the original run in the 90's. A lot of folks have tried to add to it but it just isn't the same. That included Age of Apocalyse Alpaha/Omega, Astonishing XMen, Amazing X Men, Factor X, X Calibre, X Man, Generation Next, Gambit and the X Ternals, Weapon X, X Men Chronicles, and X Universe. X Men Prime was a nice followup to that too. Most of that is probably included in what you already have. The issues of X Men, Cable, Uncanny X Men, and X Man (cause he was brought over) that came out between AoA and Onslaught were also good.

Legion Quest lead up to the AoA and it's not a bad read. Rise of Apocalypse tells Apocalypse' origins. Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix chronicles how Scott and Jean went to the future to raise Cable and fight future Apocalypse. Askani'son and the Further Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix are decent sequels to that story.

Executioner's Song is the epitome of 90's X Men. Cable and Stryfe were at the height of their popularity. Fatal Attractions was also good. And then of course there's the Onslaught saga. All of these stories are pretty well connected. In fact I would say these stories are what helped earn comics the reputation of "impenetrable continuity." But I liked 'em.
