So to recap: we have Mance Rayder, Dany's hapless prisoner, Janos Slynt, the Sand Snake spear kill, Barristan Selmy, Arya's mercy kill, Aemon Targaryen, the White Walker Jon dispatched at Hardhome, Drogon's Danznak's Pit kills, and... Stannis Baratheon! Surely that should be Jon Snow, right?

That's funny cuz I felt like Stannis' 'death' was the most open-ended killing of the season finale...

@SKetCH Haha seriously. I mean, the showrunners are the same guys who debated for 2 hours about the precise moment to cut away from Ned Stark's death - whether it should be 2 frames into the sword cutting into his neck, or 3 frames, or 4. When they cut away from Brienne taking Stannis' head off with absolutely no indication that she actually went through with it, it seems mighty suspect!

On the other hand, Jon Snow CLEARLY dies. It's only a question if he comes back or not. You'd think we'd get a special "For the Watch" image, while leaving Stannis' fate up for debate.

What happened to the caption on this one though? Was it supposed to say "Valar Dohaeris" but it got cut off somehow? And misspelled? I don't know what "Valahd" is supposed to mean.

Reading the books, it's hard to see Martin having a particular bias toward Jon as the retrospective main character or "would be king". It seems much more like he's setting up Dany for it. Always giving her just too much of a challenge to handle, but then picking her back up again after.

To be fair, though, it's still fluid until it's written and the show probably will end differently (for the sake of making the later one to be released still special).

@ImKennyPowers
That assumes there will be a single Westeros with a single ruler by the end. I'd put money on "N/A". Just a big climactic battle, a bunch of deaths, and a few of the author's favorites to pick up the pieces, but there will be no iron throne at the end.

My prediction is Jon Snow will make some great sacrifice before he dies for good. Dany will probably be the ruler of whatever is left after the wall comes down.

I think the show and book are setting for a temporal littlefinge ruling. he will take the iron throne.

with no baratheon bros. no one will have a claim to the throne after cersei and kids are outed as fake or die.

tyrells take iron throne first by location of course. but every army has decreased its numbers except for the vale and dorne.

little finger will have the vale and probably would be able to use the north. also he will have a claim to the throne as strong as any other guy in wrsteros

Exactly.

And being that it's GAME of Thrones, it implies there will be a winner.
