The Golden Compass may not have fared particularly well when it hit theaters back in 2007, but The BBC will be hoping that its small-screen adaptation of Philip Pullman's His Dark Material's is received a little better.

The first trailer for the series is now online, and while is doesn't reveal too much, it does give is a glimpse of the star-studded cast. Logan's Dafne Keen stars as Lyra Belacqua, who, along with her ever-present dæmon Pantalaimon, must avoid the clutches of the sinister Mrs Coulter (Ruth Wilson).

The show also features James McAvoy (Split, X-Men: Dark Phoenix) as Lyra's uncle Lord Asriel, and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Mary Poppins Returns) as heroic adventurer Lee Scoresby.

Check out the teaser below along with a lengthy synopsis and let us know what you think. His Dark Materials hasn't been given an official premiere date yet.

Dafne Keen takes on the lead role of Lyra, the young protagonist of the story who lives in Jordan College, Oxford. Placed there at the request of her Uncle, Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) she lives a sheltered life amongst the scholars and college staff while under the watchful protection of The Master (Clarke Peters) and Librarian Scholar Charles (Ian Gelder). When the glamorous and mesmeric Mrs Coulter (Ruth Wilson) enters Lyra’s life she embarks upon a dangerous journey of discovery from Oxford to London.

Here she meets Father MacPhail (Will Keen), Lord Boreal (Ariyon Bakare) and journalist Adele Starminster (Georgina Campbell) at a glittering society party where she first hears about the sinister General Oblation Board. Lyra is subsequently thrown into the nomadic world of the boat dwelling Gyptians – Ma Costa (Anne-Marie Duff), Farder Coram (James Cosmo), John Faa (Lucian Msamati), Raymond Van Geritt (Mat Fraser), Jack Verhoeven (Geoff Bell) and Benjamin de Ruyter (Simon Manyonda) who take her North in her quest. Once in the North she meets charismatic aeronaut and adventurer Lee Scoresby (Lin-Manuel Miranda) who joins them on their epic journey and who becomes one of Lyra’s closest allies.

The cast is fantastic. Hopefully it's better than the movie was. I'm interesting in seeing how some of the more difficult CGI is pulled off, but they made it work for Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norell.

I read the two first books but the third book turned into some angry propaganda for edgy atheists so I kinda lost interest. The two books I read were good though so I guess this show could work out!

It’s a goos cast but Dafne Keen was a scene stealer since Logan and since then I have been curious to see more of her so I think for her I will try to catch this.

Off Topic!!!

Just saw a TV spot for today's Academy Awards. The soundtrack that played in the background was Run The Jewels - Legend Has It!

which to the..."un-initiated" ...is the track that introduced the first trailer for Black Panther. It is clear they are trying to build on the popularity of the film.
