Following the events of the season 1 finale of His Dark Materials, Lyra (Dafne Keen) has entered a whole new world. When season two picks up. the young hero will have a whole lot to discover as she explores the mysterious abandoned city Cittàgazze, encountering a boy named Will (Amir Wilson) in her journey.

The first trailer for the upcoming season, which will adapt Philip Pullman's The Subtle Knife, is now online, and should give fans a pretty good idea of what to expect.

There's no premiere date just yet, but with production more or less complete prior to the filming shut down caused by the global coronavirus pandemic, HBO has scheduled it for a Fall 2020 release.

Both Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ruth Wilson will reprise their roles as Lee Scoresby and Mrs. Coulter, respectively, and new additions to the cast include Andrew Scott and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, with the latter voicing the former's dæmon.

I had a tough time getting through season 1. Some interesting world building, but I found it difficult to invest in the characters and the plot didn't grab me.

@RolandD - too young, although funny thing is in the failed 2007 adaptation, that character was voiced by Ian Mckellen

@dracula - Get out! It was all I could think when I saw the picture. What's this dog doing in Magneto's helmet. Never caught the movie.

@RolandD - Movie wasn't very good, thy cut out a lot from the books, basically made the villains generic bad guys who are just evil without any reason.
yeah it was Mckellen

@dracula - I didn't doubt you, but there's no mistaking that voice.

Need to watch this show, back in the day I enjoyed the movie, but yeah, its far from great and after reading the books, yeah they cut a lot, giving very little explanation for what they villains were doing, they were just evil

Aside from the Will subplot (which was sorta necessary to involve), I really enjoyed the first season. Didn't expect the second season to come so soon however, but it's definitely welcome. Really look forward to more of Wilson and Miranda
