WarnerMedia has officially announced that its new direct-to-consumer service will be known as HBO Max, and is set to launch in Spring of next year.
The service will compete with the likes of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Apple TV+, and the upcoming Disney+, and will boast content from a plethora of different media platforms, including Warner Bros., New Line, DC Entertainment, CNN, TNT, TBS, truTV, The CW, Turner Classic Movies, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Crunchyroll, Rooster Teeth, Looney Tunes and more.
In addition, there will be a massive slate of original content, including the previously announced
Gremlins animated series and
Dune: The Sisterhood. Plus, in a move that's sure to deal a blow to Netflix, HBO Max will now also will be the exclusive home to the streaming rights for
Friends.
