Agents of shield season 1 was a great run. Sure yeah there was a slower start, but by the end of the season it was one of the best comic book TV shows to date. Really great storyline, good job tying in HYDRA, and so on. So without further ado let’s get into the characters and discuss them.
Fitzsimmons
Yeah I’ll group them together in one. They were great on screen, early on I wanted them to be killed off, but the longer I watched, the more I liked them. They actually had great on screen chemistry throughout, and added the science portion of the team. Fitz especially ended up being an interesting character, and his near death is pretty interesting story that we can see later on in season two. The show wouldn’t have actually been as good without them, and I’m looking forward to what they can do them with in season two.
May
Obviously Ming did a great job with her role. One of the better actors they have on the show, if not the best actually. She was tough, and brought some of the needed woman butt kicking to the show. Watching her beat up ward was awesome in the final episode as well. Really an interesting character, and her relationship with ward ended up being one of the more intriguing parts of the show.
Skye
Surprisingly she ended up being a great part of the show. At the start she came off as a little annoying, but by the end she was helpful, able to handle a gun (somewhat at least) and a superhero??? The biggest speculations of the show so far have been the clairvoyant, and who is Skye? So that’s an obvious point that they have made her interesting enough. Obviously she will continue to be a driving point of season 2, also were we probably will find out what her powers are and where she came from. Really glad she is past all the “we don’t trust you” stuff from the first half of the season as well.
Ward
Ah… Mr. Cardboard… at least we thought. Ward was pretty bland, boring, and just simply made to beat up bad guys. Really nobody cared about him, until he turned out to be a double agent. Once he was showed to be HYDRA, he became the best character on the show. His crazy turn was the shows turn to greatness. Simply put he was awesome. His fight scene with May was pretty great, and I think we will be seeing more of him in season 2.
Coulson
Obviously a highlight of the show was its main character. Coulson was great, leader, acting, coming back to life. Everything. He had exactly what we wanted (including bringing back the destroyer gun), he had a crazy origins story (well the origin of his second life that is) and he now is the director of SHIELD! Can’t wait to see how this all plays out in season two. Some more great parts were we saw his lady in an episode, and we saw him almost be a father to Skye. Season two will probably center around building up SHIELD again. Should be a good one.
Deathlok
Personally my favorite part of the show. Deathlok sure wasn’t the same name as the comic Deathlok, but does it really matter? There is a Mike in the comics that becomes deathlok, maybe he will change his name in season two. Anyway doesn’t matter. Deathlok was pretty awesome, especially for a TV budget. We got to see him turn good at the end, so hopefully we see him more in season two. My guess is he will show up for a few episodes to kick some butt. Definitely a great addition to the show. Here’s to hoping he gets the rest of his cyber form.
Garrett
Bill Paxton obviously is a great land for a TV show villain. He was cool, then he became bad and was cooler! Being the first Deathlok was a sweet addition to him as well, also running centipede was sweet. Sure it was a tad of a downer when he was the clairvoyant, but it was still well done. A little easter egg was the last episode he got the full cyborg body that he has in the comics. Pretty cool to see. definitely great, and they will need some work to make a better villain for next season.
Raina
Though not like her comic counterpart, she was well done. Her comic counterpart was a unknown anyway so I’ll take it. Interesting character, and I think there is quite a bit more to her as she will probably take a larger role then the second in command lady that she was in this season.
Quinn
Anyone else love Quinn? Surprisingly he was played excellently, I actually enjoyed him throughout the season. They made him more than the evil business man, they gave him something to do, and well… Gravitonium. I have a feeling that will be a big play in the next season.
Cybertek
It was great to get a villain organization in the mix. Cybertek really opened the door to other interesting properties of marvel. There can be plenty of characters they can create and have them come from Cybertek. Not to mention the previous Deathloks. They can add all of them into the mix. I was really glad they made them as an edition to the show.
Lorelei and Sif
Was great to see some more Asguardian in the universe. The two of them were great for the episode. Sif had some excellent character development. Lorelei pretty much confirmed that one day we will see enchantress (One day may be the key phrase though). Sweet powers as well. It was also the start of Wards downfall as well. Some sweet actions scenes, hopefully we see more of them some time.
Graviton
Yeah true we never saw him. True he wasn’t amazing, but let’s be honest we never would have had a chance of seeing him on screen if it wasn’t for this show. Hopefully he does show up next season in action, but we will see. I really liked the fact that we at least got a tease from the show.
Blizzard
Donnie has a huge chance of coming back next season. Another minor villain that I thought had a sweet origins story. He now obviously has his powers, so a sweet showdown between him and the Agents would be great. Next season.
Blackout
Minor villains are great. You never get to see them, and when you do you have to smile. Blackout was a great piece. They had to find a logical way to show the Cellist, and here it is. Some cool powers, interesting back story. But the biggest thing is it opens up the door for all the Dark Force villains. Glad to see him.
Scorch
Honestly one of my favorite episodes was the Scorch episode. Another small villain from the comics, Tommy Ng. He had some cool powers, and the special effects were impressive for a TV show. Just glad to see another small comic book villain hit the screen.
Hand
Victoria hand was great, played great, and good to have a superior agent on the show. When she died it was pretty darn surprising. Great in the comics, I felt she may have been better on the show too. Not much else to say besides hopefully we see more Shield agents from the comics next year.
Koenig
Great to have a secret base, great to have a comic agent watching over it, and great to have Pat on the show. Great all around. Not to mention his death was pretty darn creepy, one of the darker moments of the series. I was glad to see him show up, and his brother at the end as well.
Hill
Sadly she couldn’t be in it more, but when she was it was great. Really a lot of interesting stuff actually, like what was she doing at Stark Tower, and showed that Stark is taking over the security of the world. All around a great addition, hopefully we will see her more in the building of Shield. Although I am a tad sad she won’t be the next director.
Trip
Great to have a replacement ward on the team, and I actually like him more too. The Howling Commando’s tie in was great. Not to mention he’s played by an excellent actor. Hopefully he stays main steam next season. I loved him in this one.
Fury
Both the episodes he appeared in were great in my opinion. I loved it. He was great in the finale, giving Coulson the destroyer, and making him director. Really some great stuff. I’m just glad they were able to get him on the show in general. SLJ probably costs a lot, I remember watching the last episode. My aunt was like “they got him on a TV show” it really shows that marvel was into making this show great, and did.
Well there you have it everyone, thanks for reading! Hope you loved the season as much as I did.
