Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet). From Executive Producers Joss Whedon (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot co-writers (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”); Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”); and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville”) comes Marvel’s first TV series. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television.

The show appears to be made in haste, driven by a compulsion to capitalize on the Avengers monetary success. It doesn't look bold, fresh or very creative.

If all those Star Trek and Stargate shows can be produced, surely a more well thought out MARVEL show could have been conceived- instead of one that looks like a high tech GAP commercial.

Guys, don't bust Josh's balls just because he posted this. As for the show, everyone at ComicCon loved it, and their completely unbiased!!

Seriously, they're not gonna show every trick and all the best stuff in the clips. If people watch it, most are gonna love it. The critics have been very kind to the show and most think its going to be one of the hits of the season.

@NeoBaggins- You just took the words out of my mouth.

@AvengersRock- Just going to bust your balls for a second. "Everyone at ComicCon loved it, and their completely unbiased!!" By "everyone" you mean the people who were inside a MARVEL specific convention room. Totally unbiased!! *sarcasm

What could be cool is how interactive this show can be with the movies. After Thor comes out, there can be references or a whole episode about the fallout from events in the movie. After Cap2, since it comes out in April, the impact can be commented on in AOS.

That's a really cool thought. People that like the movie will possibly watch the show, and people who hear the movie reference on the show will want to see the movie. To me, that's a brilliant strategy.

To me, a SHIELD show is a perfect catalyst for a weekly show. SHIELD is what brought the Avengers together. They can have superheroes in it sometimes if they want. If AOS is successful, they could have a Daredevil, Punisher or Luke Cage make an appearance and then spin it off into its own TV series. (I chose those heroes because they would be easier to make a low budget show with.)

The sky's the limit because SHIELD can go different directions every week with their plots.

I have to admit this show does not look good, it feels forced and unoriginal. Though that is how I felt about Arrow and it turned out to be a great show.

Anyways I predict ABC will cancel it after two season or maybe just one. And the reason is when regular people realize they will not be featuring any A List heroes on the show they will get bored and move on. Only the die hard fans errrrr Marvelites will get all hard and wet over the snippets of Ironman and Hulk in the background.

This would be a great way for Marvel to introduce other characters like DD, Punisher, and MoonKnight. Instead it will be something similar to X File and replace the aliens with people who have powers.

@ soforizo

Ummmm ABC is owned by Disney but ABC is know for killing a show if the rating are not there, even if the show is great. I am sure ABC will run it for a full season even if the ratings are not good.

Also ABC is not patient on letting shows develop and gain viewers.

I'm confuse by what a few of y'all are saying

Do people wanna see the show for the show?

Or

Do people wanna see the show to see how other marvel characters are reference in it?

@Drykillogic22
Smallville was pretty bad from what I've seen. I watched Season One and was not impressed at all by it. I also saw an episode with General Zod recently since I saw comments praising the actor who played him. Yeah, Zod sounded like a drunk Irishman the whole time and whoever played him was terrible. Arrow has been great with only a handful of "meh" episodes, but at least it's not trying to be the X-Files with superhuman's made up for the show. Still going to watch SHIELD for at least the first season.

@JamesMan

I have a friend that has all the smallville box-sets which are [frick]ing expensive. He was always telling me how good the show was, but when it first started I saw that cheap ass speed running and was done with it.

That was before I realized he'd never become Superman because the show is some weird alternative version of the character.
JoeMomma29
JoeMomma29 - 9/11/2013, 8:56 PM
@soforizo

Just because Disney owns ABC does not guarantee this show will stay on the air. ABC is it own corporation or child company of Disney and they do make their own decisions.

Just like how WB owns Rotten Tomatoes, but you do not see WB changing the RT score to make their movies stand out (hence MOS).

If the ratings are not there ABC will pull the plug.

@ NeoBaggins

Smallville had its moments not very many but a few. Yes the special effects were not so great. Hey it is sort of like a Flash Gordon movie, you know it is not that good but you like to watch it.

In before someone tries to say that a Heroes for Hire show in the vein of the Wire wouldn't be able to work due to the budget, because they have to use big budget powers and effects every episode dont they *rolls eyes, laughs and shakes head*

The Punisher uses guns, Matt Murdoch is a lawyer, Jennifer Walter is a District Attorney, Jessica Jones in a private investigator and Cage and Rands are mercs who clean the street etc it's made for television as they're street level characters ffs. Marvel wont be giving these characters films, we all know that, so why not introduce them through television as that's the only way these characters will be able to intergrate into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But as @ NeoBaggins perfectly put it we're getting a show that "looks like a high tech GAP commercial." instead of one that's "bold, fresh or very creative".
