Is The Watcher in Daredevil: Born Again? Fans Think They've Found Major Cameo in New Episode - UPDATE

The latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again featured a shocking development for Mayor Wilson Fisk, but was What If...?'s Watcher keeping an eye on Season 2's biggest twist yet?

UPDATE: Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum has taken to Instagram to (seemingly) confirm that The Watcher did indeed appear in Daredevil: Born Again's latest episode. Whether it was an intentional cameo remains up for debate, of course...

In this week's episode of Daredevil: Born Again, Bullseye attempts to make up for Foggy Nelson's death by targeting Mayor Wilson Fisk and his wife, Vanessa. She previously manipulated Dex into killing the lawyer, and, in the melee that follows, ends up with a shard of glass embedded in her temple.

That's seemingly the end of the road for Vanessa, and her death has ramifications that star Vincent D'Onofrio has confirmed will be felt in Season 2 and 3.

The question is, was it a big enough moment to warrant the presence of The Watcher? Many MCU fans on social media believe so.

As you can see below, a shot from outside Fogwell's Gym shows what seems to be Uatu's silhouette as Daredevil and Bullseye flee the aftermath of the Kingpin's charity boxing match. While it's more just the general shape of The Watcher—created by the shards of glass and inside lighting—than a physical cameo, it really does look like the What If...? cosmic being played by Jeffrey Wright.

There's a good chance that this is just a coincidence, but even if it's an accidental cameo, it's a pretty cool one. This would also mark the first time The Watcher has appeared in a live-action project, not counting the photorealistic I Am Groot shorts.

"He's devastated," D'Onofrio recently said of Vanessa's death, hinting at where Fisk's story goes from here. "He's always been broken, he's always been incredibly narcissistic, and that midway point moving forward, he becomes more of a loose cannon than he has ever been before. Considering the position that he's in as mayor, it's a dangerous thing."

"The idea of a friend getting hurt, especially someone as incredible as Ayelet, it affected me, like a good friend that's been hurt."

"I know that might sound silly to some people," the actor continued, "but when you get invested in a character or, more than that, when you get invested in a story, and you've done emotional work with your scene partner — in this case, Ayelet — for years and years and years, there's no acting required."

Take a closer look at The Watcher's Daredevil: Born Again "cameo" below.

In Daredevil: Born Again, survival, resistance and redemption collide as the battle for the soul of New York begins. In Season 2, Mayor Wilson Fisk crushes New York City underfoot as he hunts down public enemy number one, the Hell’s Kitchen vigilante known as Daredevil.

But beneath the horned mask, Matt Murdock will try to fight back from the shadows to tear down the Kingpin’s corrupt empire and redeem his home. Resist. Rebel. Rebuild.

Created by Dario Scardapane, Chris Ord and Matt Corman, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 stars Charlie Cox as the titular masked vigilante (aka Matt Murdock) and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk.

"A brutal, relentless tour-de-force, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is a Marvel masterstroke that sees Charlie Cox take the Man Without Fear to unprecedented heights, delivering the definitive take on Daredevil," we said in our 8-episode review published last week.

Daredevil: Born Again is now streaming weekly on Disney+.

Initially when I saw this I thought Galactus but hey who knows. I’m sure someone involved with the show will get asked at some point who will neither confirm or deny.

@dragon316 - I suspect you are probably right, but I’ll wait for official comment from Marvel.

@TemporarilyHere - oh. How did you feel
About Pedro as Reed and the film itself?

I thought he was quite good and the film was solid overall aswell as this family drama centered on a moral dilemma.

@TheVisionary25 -

Much like Reed on page, Pascal's take depends heavily on one's preconceived notion of the character.

I see him, and I see what I love and relate to about the character. Involuntary concern, subconscious pessimism, familial self-sacrifice, basically what Reed is supposed to be like when he's written (or read) by someone who doesn't react like "What? That character can't be the smartest in the world! That would mean he's smarter than me! I'M THE ONLY ONE SMARTER THAN ME! ME!".

So yeah, I loved him. 😁👌

@TemporarilyHere - that’s great

Also I found it interesting that he played him a bit like Reed was on the autism spectrum (atleast that’s my read of it) and felt like he borriwed a bit from certain comics.

@TheVisionary25 -

I'm not on the spectrum (at least as far as I know) so I can't vouch for that, but I think that yeah, it's become a commonly accepted fact among readers that this has to do with his social awkwardness.

But again, like I said before, it depends on the writer. Some present it as part of how his brain simply works, others try to paint him in a more malicious / vindictive light.

Part of why I love Hickman and Waid but don't quite vibe with Byrne (which I'm fully awrare is a blasphemy among F4 readers).

I don’t think that was the intention but I also would rather not Marvel confirm or deny it either way also & leave it to fan’s imaginations…

It certainly looks like it could be the Watcher and if they ever plan to integrate the character into live action , having him be a part of the set dressing is a cool way to do so imo.

Anyway that entire gym sequence was crazy , so intense!!.

@TheVisionary25 - as much buzz as this generated, I can see Marvel putting The Watcher in shows and movies from here on out. “Did you watch The Watcher” or something along the same lines and make it a whole thing that fans do. That could potentially be as big as after credit scenes.

No, it's some lights on the inside wall. That'd be giving Marvel way too much credit.

I mean... a stretch? yeah, probably.... but damn that'd be a SUPER HIDDEN easter. I mean, I didn't need to look too hard to see the similarity...
EscapeMySight
EscapeMySight - 4/10/2026, 3:05 PM
Could be either or. Someone on the show needs to confirm. Definitely looks like it, but why would they do it this way? Just have him be in the sky, like he’s always been, if they wanted him in the shot. It’s not something that needs to be “hidden” in this kind of way. Its the MCU / 616, this kind of stuff is pretty normal.

Lol they couldn't put him in Fantastic Four but put him in this?? Lmaoo

The absolute state of the MCU 🤡

Also, I hope Vanessa is dead. Bullseye is the only good character in the show now.
