Legion, based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens) – a troubled young man who may be more than human.

Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Now in his early 30s and institutionalized once again, David loses himself in the rhythm of the structured regimen of life in the hospital: breakfast, lunch, dinner, therapy, medications, sleep. David spends the rest of his time in companionable silence alongside his chatterbox friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), a fellow patient whose life-long drug and alcohol addiction has done nothing to quell her boundless optimism that her luck is about to change. The pleasant numbness of David’s routine is completely upended with the arrival of a beautiful and troubled new patient named Syd (Rachel Keller). Inexplicably drawn to one another, David and Syd share a startling encounter, after which he must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees are the result of him being a mutant.

A haunted man, David escapes from the hospital and seeks shelter with his sister Amy (Katie Aselton). But Amy’s concern for her brother is trumped by her desire to protect the picture perfect suburban life she’s built for herself. Eventually, Syd guides David to Melanie Bird (Jean Smart), a nurturing but demanding therapist with a sharp mind and unconventional methods. She and her team of specialists – Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris), Kerry (Amber Midthunder) and Cary (Bill Irwin) – open David’s eyes to an extraordinary new world of possibilities.

Legion features:
Dan Stevens as David Haller
Rachel Keller as Syd Barrett
Jean Smart as Melanie
Aubrey Plaza as Lenny Busker
Jeremie Harris as Ptonomy Wallace
Amber Midthunder as Kerry Loudermilk
Katie Aselton as Amy Haller
Bill Irwin as Cary Loudermilk
Jemaine Clement in an undisclosed role

Its official, this show HAS to take place back in the day. The tech that guy is surrounded by in the one photo is very old. The fashion, the vibrant colors, the architecture, the gun being held by the brotha with the nice cap too. I dont think its just retro for the sake of being retro, I think it takes place in the 70s.

Or this is how LEGION fashions reality to appear to him. Idk. Xavier knocked some chick up in his teens or early twenties back in the day, lets say the 50s. Legion would be in his twenties if this is the mid seventies.

@ComicsBornAndBred - I agree. I didn't really grasp it for sure until these last screenshots

@AsgardianHobo - yea these portraits and promo stills really confirmed it for me. Its odd almost that they seem to be treating it like some secret. Unless, its tied to Legion's powers.

Fargo season 2 just took place in the 70s too so Noah was probably (still) really feeling those retro vibes. His seventies sensibilities could've been very high once getting into Legion. And, he doesn't have to recycle all those old sets haha.

@DaScarlettFever - yea. i think the figured, better to set it during the 70s and leave the door open for a relatively young Xavier; he'd be in his 40s.

The trailers give it away too. In his sessions, David's examiners keep saying he's a part of a new species, something along those lines. A new breed of people is growing. We know mutants didn't become wildly known to the public until First Class in the 60s. So mutants are still pretty new to the world in the 70s.

Also, Magneto and Xavier wouldn't be the two sides of the same coin if they both didn't have ILLEGITIMATE KIDS haha.
