Marvel and Hulu have announced that their fan-favorite young adult superhero series,
Marvel's Runaways, will end its run after the upcoming third season, which is set to debut on the streaming service on December 13.
As part of the announcement, Marvel has also released the official final season trailer and poster.
With Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios assuming all control over the creative direction of the company's future content creation, including publishing, film, TV and animation, this announcement should've been expected to some degree as they've really been thinning the herd this past year, with non-Marvel Cinematic Universe projects overseen by Jeph Loeb and Marvel Television being axed left and right, including
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,
Cloak & Dagger and
Ghost Rider.
They also join the likes of
Daredevil,
Jessica Jones,
Luke Cage,
Iron Fist,
The Defenders, and
The Punisher, all of which were cancelled late last year after a falling out between The Walt Disney Company and Netflix.
Helstrom and the four animated series -
MODOK,
Hit-Monkey,
Tigra & Dazzler and
Howard the Duck - leading up to
The Offenders remain on the Hulu docket for now, but after this, their future status is also likely uncertain at best.
While Marvel Television may be on the way out, the future of Marvel TV series have never looked brighter with the vast number of big-budget upcoming Marvel Studios-produced series, including
Falcon and the Winter Soldier,
Loki,
WandaVision,
Hawkeye,
What If...?,
Ms. Marvel,
She-Hulk and
Moon Knight, all of which will stream exclusively on Disney+ and will actually take place within the blockbuster Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In an action-packed Season 3, the Runaways frantically search for their captured friends Chase Stein, Gert Yorkes, and Karolina Dean. The kids go head to head with an unstoppable enemy who has targeted Leslie — or more accurately, the child she’s carrying. Nico Minoru draws them all into a dark realm where its ruler Morgan le Fay, played by Elizabeth Hurley, is much more nefarious than anyone the kids have yet to face.
