Tonight's fall finale was quite the eventful and emotional hour as the Mutant Underground suffered a major loss and were then introduced to a potentially scary new ally.

First up, as many correctly predicted, Dreamer (Elena Satine) sadly paid the ultimate price in tonight's installment after she refused to obey the evil Roderick Campbell (Garret Dillahunt). Then, at the end of the hour we were introduced to the real Esme as she betrayed her new friends to free her two telepathic sisters, confirming everyone's suspicions that she was indeed one of the Stepford Cuckoos.

The show is off for three weeks, but will return on New Year's Day with an episode that sees the Cuckoos ask the Underground for a big favor.

Watch the new promo for the midseason premiere below:

The Cuckoos is cool.
The nice Weapon X link too. Wonder if we will see more Hellfire Club and the cnacelled show will eventually be an arch later on in this one?

I’m enjoying the way that the show has the mutant resistance teetering between Xavier’s dream and the Brotherhood’s methods.

I do wonder what Esme’s plan ultimately was, as she seemed surprised that the Struckers managed to convince the Sentinel Agent to move the prisoners out of the lab. Was she just trying to discredit the Struckers enough to get the others to go with a more violent assault?

@Ace006 - Apart from a few few slow world building episodes, this has been a great series so far.

@batman001 - Agreed - this is a cool series, live numbers for shows like this no longer should be an issue. Times have changed and people watch shows at their leisure rather than on the day, or the new trend of saving them up and doing a binge session

Helluva of an episode, seriously, shit was quite intense and emotional.
Loved all the nods to the X-Men universe, Adamantium is still strong af! :P
Don't even get me started on the Stwpford Cuckoos, wonder what Morrison would think of em!

Which is better Gifted or Runnaway's?

And how do either compare to the 1st season of Heroes?

@Starscream24 - I dont think either come close to being better than Heroes S1. They have similarities but Heroes was just fantastic. There isnt really a "save the cheerleader" moment to get hyped about either. The occasional reference to the Xmen and Brotherhood does keep me intrigued cuz I'm wondering what happened to them.

I personally kinda like Runaways more cuz its more personal even though Gifted has a bigger budget and larger scale.

Is this show better than Heroes, Season 1?
Himura

@Luminus - No...Heroes S1 was like catching lightning in a bottle.

@Himura - Indeed. I took the plunge and watched the first 10 episodes of the Gifted. Sad to say, this show is generic ASF. There is not a single episode that I want to go back and watch. It also commits the ultimate movie sin in killing off the only black character with barely a significant role (i.e. none. he didn't die, but he looked like he was dead, when he was shot the F up. Blacks as cannon fodder, as usual) Pathetic and tiresome. That other obsidian mutant doesn't count, because he's obviously there for show, just like the sprinkling (blink and miss them) of black characters walking around in the background.

The only interesting thing about this are the Stepford Cuckoos.

All the producers had to do was tie this into X3. That Incident they kept talking about didn't have to be some random protest gone wrong. Just have them say that because Magneto and his brotherhood of mutants destroyed the Golden Gate bridge and invaded an island, killing scores of law enforcement officers, mutants are now being hunted. Simple and 10x more interesting back story. This gives them room to explain why the "cure" didn't last and why the Brotherhood and the X-Men went into hiding. Get rid of the guy who lost his daughter and use someone relevant, like Henry Gyrich. FOX is just aggressively meh with this property.

Speaking of that guy, there was a picture of him with Trask and staff. I didn't see a little person, so this isn't connected to the movies, making it more irrelevant. And mutants in the 50's that are known to be mutants? Give me a break. So much for the world being surprised, when Xavier and crew shows up.

Marvel will surely cancel this nonsense and start over.
