VisionQuest Episode 6 Featured A Cameo From The Watcher — And It Teases The Importance Of The Client

The Watcher has appeared in VisionQuest, with Marvel confirming his surprise cameo. However, why is he observing The Client, and what could that mystery villain's identity mean for the wider MCU?

During the sixth episode of VisionQuest, the camera focuses on a bank of TV screens which the mysterious Client uses to communicate with Raza, Vision, and Paladin.

However, eagle-eyed fans have noticed that, to the right of them, The Watcher can be seen observing events through a shadowy doorway. The What If...? character's presence in the Disney+ series has since been confirmed by Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum and VisionQuest showrunner Terry Matalas, as you can see below.

The Watcher, played by Jeffrey Wright, only appears during particularly big moments, such as Vanessa Fisk's death in Daredevil: Born Again and moments before the mutant massacre on Genosha in X-Men '97. So, why was he present to hear The Client speak?

Well, we have to assume that the mystery antagonist's identity is going to be a huge reveal somewhere in the remaining two episodes of VisionQuest. Whether he's J.I.M., the Hex Vision, Ultron, or any of the characters theorised to be behind that voice, their true identity will seemingly have a major impact on both this series and the wider MCU.

We'll have to wait and see for now, but VisionQuest has definitely dropped some compelling clues in recent weeks. One thing we do know is that it's not Mephisto, a character who many believed would debut in WandaVision but didn't show up until Ironheart.

In our full season review, we concluded, "Paul Bettany and James Spader are masterful in VisionQuest, a staggering achievement by Marvel Studios and Terry Matalas that understands its characters, does right by them, and delivers one of the best MCU stories ever told."

In VisionQuest, Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponise him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron.

His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision's son, reincarnated. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.

VisionQuest stars Paul Bettany, James Spader, Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T'Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, with Emily Hampshire and James D'Arcy.

Four episodes of VisionQuest are now streaming on Disney+.

I just finished the 3rd episode and I think I lost interest. There were too many stupid things happening that I just don't think I want to continue watching this.

@FireGunn - I only liked it for the violent Vision scenes, Paladin was cool, and I love James Spader. But episode 5,6 really gets awful, it's a fanfiction come to life it's so cringe...

Oooh, I never thought of Hex Vision which makes sense given what happened to Tommy and Billy. Something tells me that's not it but it's an interesting idea either way.

Hex vision would be kinda cool but I doubt it. I didn’t catch the watcher cameo. I think I remember seeing critics say the last two episodes are pretty bonkers, so hopefully it means big things
