UPDATE: A second VisionQuest clip has been released, featuring a much funnier exchange between Vision and Ultron as they squabble about the solution to a pesky CAPTCHA. How many fire hydrants are there? See if you can figure it out in the player below...
The first clip from VisionQuest has been released, and it finds Vision laying down the law to Ultron when the villain is finally allowed to leave the attic and join his fellow AIs in the Mindscape.
The snarky android has lost none of his attitude since we last saw him in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, and wastes no time insulting Vision's apparent security team, Dum-E and U (who he dismisses as "a couple of Stark helper AIs").
Vision warns his father, "If you mispeak, misbehave, attempt to maim, murder, or even disrupt this simulation in any way, you'll be met with immediate..." However, before he can finish, Ultron responds, "Deletion, I'm aware."
Things are clearly tense between these two, even though Vision couldn't bring himself to wipe Ultron completely out of existence when they last crossed paths. Whether the synthezoid will live to regret that remains to be seen.
Addressing Ultron's human avatar in an interview with ScreenRant, actor James Spader said, "I thought it was really important that the moment you see him, his entrance, that it tells you something already. And so I thought it would be good that he’d have long hair and this big beard, but it also was important to what the character was."
"It’s coming from an eight or nine-foot robot, an amazing physical specimen. And I was like, this character still, physically, has to have real bearing and impact from the very first moment you meet him," he continued. "But then I also thought it would be interesting where he was metal, so clean and smooth, that, in fact, in life, in his human avatar, he’s sort of scruffy and the opposite."
Check out this first VisionQuest clip, and our reaction to the series, below.
In VisionQuest, Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponise him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron.
His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision's son, reincarnated. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.
VisionQuest stars Paul Bettany, James Spader, Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T'Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, with Emily Hampshire and James D'Arcy.
