WANDAVISION Spinoff In The Works At Disney+ Starring Kathryn Hahn As Agatha Harkness

Kathryn Hahn often stole the show as Agnes/Agatha Harkness in WandaVision, and the trades are now reporting that a spinoff series is in the works that would put the powerful villain in the spotlight...

Was this Agatha's plan all along?

Variety is reporting that a WandaVision spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness is in development for Disney+ from Marvel Studios. Should the project move forward, WandaVision Head Writer Jac Schaeffer would serve as writer and executive producer.

Deadline adds to this report by noting, "The potential spinoff would be centered around Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness character which Hahn is set to reprise across the MCU - on streaming and in movies - under a larger deal she has made with the studio, sources said."

Plot details are being kept a closely guarded secret, but the trade notes that the show is described as a "dark comedy" by their sources. This makes sense all things considered, as Hahn brought a lot of twisted humour to WandaVision both as nosy neighbour Agnes and the villainous Agatha.

When we last saw Agatha, she had been trapped inside her own mind as "Agnes." The Scarlet Witch was responsible, though Wanda hinted that she might return to find Harkness if she needed to learn more about her newfound abilities. In terms of where her story could go next, we know the villain is hundreds of years old, so there's lots of ground to explore following WandaVision.

However, it would be no bad thing to bring Ralph Bohner back as "Quicksilver" given how unsatisfying the conclusion to his story was in the WandaVision finale (most of which was shot during COVID).

The series scored 23 Emmy nominations earlier this year, including one for Hahn; the response to her character was overwhelmingly positive from fans and critics, so it's no great surprise Marvel Studios is looking to revisit her in some way here. We'll keep you guys updated, but for now, you can relive one of Hahn's finest moments in WandaVision below:

How about a Baron Zemo spin off?
TFATW opened the door to show the Baron side of Zemo. Plenty of room for more stories.

Time to bring Will Ferrell into the MCU, I say. If John C. Reilly wasn't already involved, I'd have wanted him too.

@Waddles - We can go back and fourth before just bringing the rest of the news team in.

I'm kinda hoping they don't make it into a whole show. Rather see her be part of that rumoured Halloween special

@rebellion - Oh the X-men are coming. And they are coming hard. And there will be Disney+ shows galore. But the MCU has to get there storywise first. This can probably be plugged into any random month.

Oh Disney, will you never learn? Side characters are great because they work in small doses. Put them front and centre and they become draining.

OK Disney, relax. I've been on DC's back about making weird spinoff ideas, but this is just as weird.

I’ll admit I liked Hahn when she was masquerading as Agnes. One she was revealed to be Agatha, even though I saw it coming, I wasn’t taken entirely by her as a villain. Perhaps the show can her a more compelling villain.

I also wonder if they will make this tie into the upcoming F4 film seeing how Agatha is very much connected to the team. Maybe we will see her be a nanny to Franklin Richards if they want to go back to the sitcom angle of WandaVision.

@WakandaTech - although schedule wise they could do six, I'm content with 4 shows and a few specials too.

So far I'm not that interested in the rumoured Echo, Agatha and Werewolf shows to be honest. Could make them part of other shows and work just as fine I think

@Armageddon26 - do think they could make Agatha part of it. Werewolves and witches are both very halloween-y. Only one we're missing now is a zombie and a vampire

It's so awesome that we can get an Agatha spin off out of nowhere lmao. I am down for it, she was awesome and it just gives us more for the magic side of the MCU.

Feels like with D+ on top of films, that the MCU has constant comic runs with these and the characters.
Armageddon26
Armageddon26 - 10/7/2021, 3:32 PM
@Menks123 - Thanks to Disney+, the MCU is the closest we've ever gotten to the world of comics in a different medium. By this time a decade from now there will be nearly 100 shows and movies to choose from, and hundreds of individual episodes and movies to watch.

My first thought upon seeing this was actually a bit of exhaustion. Felt for a second like I may be getting too old watch 6-8 Marvel shows a year in addition to 5-6 movies. But then I thought about how much of a periphery player Agatha is, and it made me strangely excited to see a show that's so far divorced from much of the MCU and able to do it's own thing. Of course, they could load this thing up with cameos but I feel like an Agatha story is likely to be fairly self contained no matter what direction they go with it. Stoked to get more work from Schaffer
