Was this Agatha's plan all along?
Variety is reporting that a WandaVision spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness is in development for Disney+ from Marvel Studios. Should the project move forward, WandaVision Head Writer Jac Schaeffer would serve as writer and executive producer.
Deadline adds to this report by noting, "The potential spinoff would be centered around Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness character which Hahn is set to reprise across the MCU - on streaming and in movies - under a larger deal she has made with the studio, sources said."
Plot details are being kept a closely guarded secret, but the trade notes that the show is described as a "dark comedy" by their sources. This makes sense all things considered, as Hahn brought a lot of twisted humour to WandaVision both as nosy neighbour Agnes and the villainous Agatha.
When we last saw Agatha, she had been trapped inside her own mind as "Agnes." The Scarlet Witch was responsible, though Wanda hinted that she might return to find Harkness if she needed to learn more about her newfound abilities. In terms of where her story could go next, we know the villain is hundreds of years old, so there's lots of ground to explore following WandaVision.
However, it would be no bad thing to bring Ralph Bohner back as "Quicksilver" given how unsatisfying the conclusion to his story was in the WandaVision finale (most of which was shot during COVID).
The series scored 23 Emmy nominations earlier this year, including one for Hahn; the response to her character was overwhelmingly positive from fans and critics, so it's no great surprise Marvel Studios is looking to revisit her in some way here. We'll keep you guys updated, but for now, you can relive one of Hahn's finest moments in WandaVision below:
