WHAT IF? - New Details About Erik Killmonger's Role In The Marvel Studios Animated Series Revealed

We've seen a few shots of Michael B. Jordan's Erik Killmonger in What If?, but a new report claims to shed some light on plans for the Black Panther villain in the first Marvel Studios animated series...

Lots of intriguing details about What If? have been finding their way online recently, and the latest shed some light on plans for Erik Killmonger. The Black Panther villain - played by Michael B. Jordan in Ryan Coogler's movie - has appeared in promo art for the Disney+ series, but looks exactly the same as he did in 2018.

This has led to plenty of speculation about what he'll be getting up to in Marvel Studios' first animated series, and The Illuminerdi has now shed at least a little more light on plans for the character.

The site notes that "rather than going after the throne of Wakanda, Stevens will go international thanks to a new friendship with Tony Stark." While some leaked LEGO has indicated that a version of Iron Man will head to Sakaar instead of The Hulk, the first trailer for What If? showed Stark enjoying that donut we saw him eating in Iron Man 2, so could this be when they cross paths?

Remember, both graduated from MIT in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it's possible they'll become allies in the present day. Could that lead to a dark turn for the Armoured Avenger?

A synopsis for the show was shared during last year's Disney Investor Day, revealing: "'What If…?' flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways."

"Coming to Disney+ in summer 2021, Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU," it continues, "featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles. The series is directed by Bryan Andrews; Ashley Bradley is head writer."

What If? premieres on Disney+ this August.

what if T'chaka had taken Killmonger to Wakanda

@dracula - That or "What if Killmonger killed T'Challa" would both be more interesting than this is implying his episode being. Don't get me wrong, it is a great idea to use this series to see what would happen, if characters who will never meet in the movies would meet each other, but if the premise of the episode is "What if Killmonger and Tony were buddies" then I'm out.

And I’m not even in the camp that feels that Tony has been forced everywhere in MCU.

I think Tony Stark is kidnapped by the ten rings. So, Killmonger leads a mission to rescue his old friend. He is similar to Rambo in the episode. Finally, Tony was executed and Killmonger fights Raza. Raza uses the Mark I.

Lmao Tony is everywhere: Sakaar, Gamora's ep and this one. Not complaining tho. This dynamic should be fun. Also, at least Iron Man isn't his villain origin story 😅

I can see that work. Bet Stark can deliver the weapons for Killmonger's quest just as well as Wakanda. Just don't think Stark actually will in the episode.

It would be much better to do this What If series in live action especially Marvel Zombies, instead going the cheap route animating everything.

@BlackBeltJones - Not at all. A lot of implications with their stories diverging to this degree.

What If? T'Challa helped the surrounding countries of Africa before opening an out reach centre in Oakland California.

Some of you REALLY don't know what "What If?..." is. They're wild reimaginings of the affairs of characters we know. WHAT IF the Venom symbiote used Wolverine as a host instead of Eddie Brock. WHAT IF Mary Jane was bitten by the spider instead of Peter Parker. This is how it's supposed to be. It's essentially examining the butterfly effect. Change one minor element of the story and let it take you on a journey of how it would play out instead of the way we know.

Can we please fvck off with all this incessant complaining? For real

Seems like people are a bit upset that even in animated form we’re getting more Tony. I get it, but it doesn’t bother me at all. More of the best MCU character is always great imo.
