We've had suspicions for a while now that What If? will have larger consequences for the Marvel Cinematic Universe than we first realized, especially after that poster describing the characters as the "Guardians of the Multiverse." It's possible Marvel Studios has live-action plans for the team, especially if it turns out that they're all from the same Earth.
Either way, Marvel Studios has kicked open the door to the Multiverse following today's Loki finale, and during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tom Hiddleston opened up on his role in the highly anticipated animated series.
"It's like, 'What if Loki wasn't adopted?' 'What if Peggy Carter was the one who got the [Super-Soldier] Serum?' 'What if the Ravagers kidnapped T'Challa instead of Peter Quill?' It's what if some major event in [MCU] history had gone the other way and what reality would we be living in now?" he revealed, seemingly confirming the premise of an episode featuring Loki.
"I am intrigued because I haven't seen the whole thing," Hiddleston said, adding: "And then it sets up a whole bunch of stuff in the MCU, which I know nothing about."
So, yeah, this won't just be a throwaway animated series that doesn't connect to the MCU! That promises to make What If? essential viewing, and as it looks set to be our first trip into the Multiverse following the events of "For All Time. Always.", we could be about to get a better idea of what's to come in Phase 4 and beyond.
