WHAT IF? - Marvel Studios' First Animated Series Reportedly Heading To Disney+ This August

What If? is one of the most highly anticipated - and intriguing - Marvel Studios TV shows coming to Disney+, and it's now looking like the series will debut this August. Find more details after the jump...

Loki is set to arrive on Disney+ early next month, and with only six episodes, it will wrap up in mid-July. With What If? billed for a summer release, we've anticipated it arriving late July/August for a while now, but Entertainment Weekly is reporting today that it's going to be the latter month.

The site doesn't have a specific date, unfortunately, but this is good news and hopefully means an official announcement is right around the corner. We have seen a trailer for What If?, but details are few and far between; with that in mind, the next sneak peek will hopefully pull back the curtain on this show.

A synopsis for the series was shared during last year's Disney Investor Day, revealing: "'What If…?' flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways."

"Coming to Disney+ in summer 2021, Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU," it continues, "featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles. The series is directed by Bryan Andrews; Ashley Bradley is head writer."

Some concept art for the series recently leaked online that you can check out by clicking here. Initially, we thought What If? would be very standalone in nature, but other reveals about the series have hinted at it actually having wider ramifications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of the Multiverse.

Are you excited to hopefully tune into What If? this August?

I was hoping for stories that were way more out there and crazy, but I'm still excited for this show. I'm expecting 4 seasons at least

I'm still a little ticked that we have to wait so long between TFAWS and Loki, but I'll take what I can get when I can get it from Marvel any day.

I am actually really looking forward to this.

Should be a really fun spin on things within the MCU and hopefully gets Marvel Animated things off the ground and improved, since they've definitely lacked there.

I hope What If? the TV series is as good as What If? the comic book series. What If? was one of my favorite series when I was a kid because it exposed me to much of the Marvel Universe's underlying mythologies when, as a young reader, you're struggling to assimilate the greater shared universe.

I am looking forward to this, but I hope Peggy Carter isn't the closest we get to a Captain Britain, I hope we get a Captain Britain in the MCU proper. I know there were rumblings of a movie being in development, just do it Feige.

@Fishandchips - With Black Knight coming in Eternals, the arrival of Captain Britain can't be far off. He was teased in Peggy's 1970 Endgame scene, too.

@Skrull - I hope so! MCU does love the occasional tease without a payoff though haha
