WHAT IF? Star Hayley Atwell Describes The Disney+ Series As An "Alternative Narrative In A Parallel Universe"

Avengers: Endgame star Hayley Atwell has shared the previously released trailer for What If? along with an interesting tease for the Disney+ series which may shed more light on what we should expect...

Yesterday, a new poster for What If? found its way online which teased the "Guardians of the Multiverse." It looks a lot like the series will bring together alternate reality versions of heroes and villains from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to protect the Marvel Multiverse - an unexpected twist that points to the animated series doing more than just visiting different realities.

Now, star Hayley Atwell (who will reprise the role of Peggy Carter as she becomes Captain Britain) has shared the previously released trailer to her Instagram account along with the following: "Coming summer 2021 #disneyplus an alternative narrative in a parallel universe... a position of power that Peggy Carter is fully equipped for #iknowmyvalue 🇬🇧👊🏼"

That's an interesting description, and indicates that all these character inhabit the same Earth rather than different ones. This leaves us to wonder what singular incident led to this unrecognisable world being created where T'Challa became Star-Lord and The Winter Soldier battles a zombie Captain America.

A synopsis for the series was shared during last year's Disney Investor Day, revealing: "'What If…?' flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways."

"Coming to Disney+ in summer 2021, Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU," it continues, "featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles. The series is directed by Bryan Andrews; Ashley Bradley is head writer."

Personally, I was more excited at the idea of each episode just being its own story being told in its own reality.

I like the concept of this one, but damn the gorgeous animation is definitely the major selling point for me.

''indicates that all these character inhabit the same Earth rather than different ones''

I was kinda hoping every episode just to be it's own stand-alone adventure.

Although it can still be if they're still set in their own continutities, and only the last episode seeing all of them coming together in one timeline.

We need them to have the mcu version of that universe where Tony stark was a woman and dated Steve Roger's. We all know Tony and Steve were the real love story of this franchise.

My main interest in this is how the animation will look.

I badly want to see Disney+ make something like 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes.' Still the best screen adaptation of Marvel Comics today.

I'll watch, and that's all Disney cares about. But damnit, we ALREADY have seen the MCU fight Thanos. I'm very disappointed.
I can see it now,
"I am the Watcher. I can see an infinite variety of Earths where each one is differnt. Some in only the smallest of demonstrative ways. Others, dramatically different to the point of nigh on unrecognizability.
But I'm only going to show you one . . . for I am the Watcher!"

So this is like the Exiles but more MCU centric.
