ARMY OF THIEVES: Zack Snyder-Produced ARMY OF THE DEAD Prequel Drops Its First Trailer

Following the success of Army of the Dead earlier this year, Netflix is returning to that world for Army of Thieves, a prequel that will follow Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer) on a heist.

Netflix has released the first official trailer for Army of Thieves, the upcoming prequel to Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, which will be set six years before the events of the first film and expand on the origins of Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer), who - spoiler alert - was one of the many casualties of the first film.

In addition to starring, Schweighöfer also directed the film with a script from rising star Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum; Army of the Dead). The supporting cast is made up of Nathalie Emmanuel as Gwendoline, Guz Khan as Rolph, Ruby O. Fee as Korina, Stuart Martin as Brad Cage, Jonathan Cohen as Delacroix, Noemie Nakai as Beatrix, Peter Simonischek in an undisclosed role, and John Bubniak as Christopher.

Unlike the Snyder-directed feature, this one is being described as a heist romantic comedy, which likely explains the film's considerably lighter tone. It is also one of a number of Army of the Dead-related projects currently in development, along with the Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas anime prequel series and a direct sequel to the original film.

Army of Thieves arrives exclusively on Netflix on October 29.

In this prequel to Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, small-town bank teller Dieter gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.
