Netflix's Live-Action AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER Series Releases New Character Posters For The Main Cast

Just a few weeks remain before Netflix releases all eight episodes of its live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series and the streamer has unveiled four brand-new character posters to help advertise the program.

The streamer also revealed that Michael Goi (Scream Queens, American Horror Story) will be directing the first two episodes of the series, along with the creative team behind the other six episodes.

The first episode features a script written by the creators behind the original Nickelodeon animated series, Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko and Albert Kim- who replaced DiMartino and Konietzko after they departed the project due to creative differences.

Celebrated comic book scribe Joshua Hale Fialkov penned the script for the second episode of the show.

Episodes three and four are directed by Jabbar Rassan, while five and six are directed by Roseanne Liang, and episodes seven and eight are directed by Jet Wilkinson.

Since a director oversees two consecutive episodes, fans of the franchise believe the show is set up to consist of four two-part episodes instead of eight separate episodes.

Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender stars Gordon Cormier as Avatar Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara and Ian Ousley as Sokka.

The show also stars Dallas Liu (PEN15) as Prince Zuko, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Kim's Convenience, The Mandalorian) as Uncle Iroh, Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-0, Lost) as Fire Lord Ozai, Ken Leung (Inhumans, The Blacklist) as Commander Zhao, and Elizabeth Yu  (Somewhere in Queens)as Princess Azula.

The official synopsis from Netflix reads, "Water, Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony - then everything changed. A live-action adaptation Aang's story.

The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the firebenders towards conquering the world. With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope.

But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang, a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar. Alongside his newfound friends Sokka and Katara, siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai. But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task. They’ll need the help of the many allies and colorful characters they meet along the way."

Cautiously optimistic about this. Can’t be worse than their last attempt…

Well credit where it's due. They actually look like the characters.

Is that so much to ask?

@Origame - Avatar takes place in a fictional country. Technically casting any real actor is race-swapping...

@UncleHarm1 - literally didn't even mention that.

But if we're going there, dude, we got the skin colors from the cartoon. We get the general idea of what each nation is meant to be ethnically.

The animated series is great, I don't see the point in a live action remake.

I hope it's good tho.

As someone who considers the animated series to be (near) perfect , I am looking forward to this….

I like seeing new interpretations of pre-existing material through the eyes of a new creative so I’m interested to see the changes or so Albert Kim brings to it as a showrunner which he has said is a more serialized narrative aswell as events that were never shown before such as the Air Temple attack etc.

Hope it turns out well!!.

They look like the characters, which is great. I'm hoping it treats the story appropriately with a blend of seriousness and appropriate comedy given the characters age. The right tonal balance is key for Avatar.

Primary concern is that the trailers have hidden a lot of the acting and due to Konietzko and DiMartino it's possible they are going to vary massively from the source material. I'm still expecting them to kill off Iroh at the end of Season 1 in order to give more focus to how Zuko manages on his own.

I also think we need a Season 2 announcement to get people invested, if they don't plan to adapt all of it then it's kinda meaningless to get invested. Unlike One Piece the Avatar characters are on a very specific timeline so unless they announce and release a Season 2 for late 2025 the main cast will simply age out of the roles before they release the other three seasons.

@vectorsigma - literally. At least they started their own studio and we have a new avatar animated film and series currently in production.

feels like another one of those where a portion of the fan base is going to hate it just because it is not what they did in the show.

I'm not big on turning everything into a live action series or movie so I have no stake in this. With that said, I hope it's as good as the posters look.
