Furthermore, according to the Netflix press release, Twilight of the Gods will released this fall.

Per the press release, new clips will be unveiled during the Next on Netflix Animation: From Twilight of the Gods to Wallace & Gromit panel, where, "fan-favorite director, Zack Snyder, and executive producer, Deborah Snyder along with Xilam Animation Director Slimane Aniss unveiling clips from the adult animated series."

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival—or simply Annecy—is the world's first festival dedicated to animated films. This major event takes place in Annecy, France, each year around the beginning of June.

Founded in 1960, it is one of the most famous and oldest animation festivals in the world. It pays tribute to all things animation-related by showing a wide selection of films. television programs and short films that use a variety of techniques, such as stop-motion, 3D, and conventional animation.

There are several categories in which animated films participate, including student, feature, and even web-only films.

Previously, Marc du Pontavice, Founder and CEO at Xilam Animation stated, "We’re so proud to be working with the team at Stone Quarry, including iconic creator and director Zack Snyder.  And we’re also deeply grateful to Netflix for trusting us to bring his spectacular vision to life."

He went on to add, "We’ll be utilising state of the art 2D animation across the series, which will include spectacular battles and special effects in the distinctive style that has characterised Zack’s work throughout his illustrious career. This project also marks a significant step forward in our ambitions to bring our expertise into the world of adult action series for global audiences."

In a late 2023 interview with Collider, Snyder shared the most details about the project to date:

"It’s basically this: there’s a king and his queen in a small Viking village, and they want to get married. An event happens to them at their wedding that causes Sigrid, who is the bride to be, who is the child of giants, to go on a crazy mission of revenge.

She enlists a cast of characters - a seer, a dwarf - and they come together to form a band that has this one mission to find a god and fight him.

It’s a mission, it’s a revenge story. Sigrid is this beautiful, very Scandinavian kind of cold but passionate character that I’ve really enjoyed working through and with because she’s just so cool. Sylvia Hoeks voices her."

Twilight of the Gods is an 8-episode series that will see 2 episodes directed by Snyder, with other installments directed by Jay Oliva, and Eric Carrasco.

Naming an animated series after a portion of Wagner’s “The Ring” is definitely throwing the gauntlet down; doing so after directing the embarrassing floppage of Rebel Moon just seems foolish. I liked the Snyder Cut quite a bit, but idk if Snyder has the sauce for half the shit he aims for… maybe another 300 movie would bring his mojo back

@tmp3 - isn't Twilight of the Gods just another way of saying Ragnarok? Don't think Wagner came up with that.

@bkmeijer1 - Literal translation of Ragnarok from old norse to English is twilight of the Gods I believe but could be wrong.

Rögn translates as gods I think and rökr is twilight although rök can also be translated as 'destined end' however old norse to English is contextual so not always one specific/easy translation.

"I liked the Snyder Cut" - @tmp3
Any opinion you've ever had is invalidated.

@NGFB - I'm not a hater, but I do think it's gonna suck. It's gonna look cool and have some great moments, but it's gonna be tied together with abysmal writing

@bkmeijer1 - I mean I think it is the sort of story that fits his wheelhouse so could be good if he sticks close to source but we'll see, could end up like 300 where it works well on one level (and I did love at the time) but not without issues.

@Apophis71 - if he follows an already established story, it could be good. 300, but also Watchmen and Dawn of the Dead show that

@bkmeijer1 - That is what I'm thinking anyway, if he has written a story from scratch only loosely based on Norse mythology/culture then that is a whole other thing.

The plot sounds a lot like Rebel Moon Part 1, or Army of the Dead, or Justice League, or Sucker Punch.

Wait, is every Snyder story about a character that seeks retaliation and gathers allies to do so?

@bkmeijer1 -
I was thinking the same thing.

I really think Zack needs to either

A) take writing lessons
B) let others write for him
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 4/23/2024, 5:31 PM
@HulkisHoly - I agree. Think a writer that takes on the story might be best. Really let's him focus on making it look cool, because that is what he is good at
