We've seen a few behind-the-scenes clips in featurettes here and there, but fans have been anxiously awaiting a first proper look at some footage from Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon, and the Justice League director has now announced when the teaser trailer is set to debut.

Snyder says he's still putting the "finishing touches" to the trailer, but it'll be ready to screen during GamesCon on Tuesday, August 22.

We don't know for certain that the teaser will be released online simultaneously, but it's probably a safe enough assumption.

The idea for Rebel Moon began as a Star Wars movie before Snyder realized that he wasn't going to have the type of freedom he felt he needed to tell his Seven Samurai-inspired story, and decided to develop an original project for Netflix.

Check out a screenshot from the teaser in Snyder's post below.

From Zack Snyder, the filmmaker behind 300, Man of Steel, and Army of the Dead, comes REBEL MOON, an epic science-fantasy event decades in the making. When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival.

Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.

Rebel Moon is set to premiere on December 22.

Zach has made 2 really good movies. 300 and Watchmen, both of which were faithful adaptations of other people's creative. Any time he has creative control over a project I haven't personally liked the output. He's been really good though at amassing a following that believes he speaks for them in a world where nobody else does. Let's see what happens when the streaming services have to be more circumspect about how they invest their money. His follwing may very well be enough to support him on a streamer but not in a theater driven project.

@Goldboink - I liked Man of Steel and his cut of Justice League as well...though that could have used an additional edit to remove the bloat.

Man of steel was almost good but I just didn't like a bunch of his decisions, like the bitter Pa Kent and all of that. He set up the mistrust of humanity towards the alien and that's just not Superman. He's a symbol of hope and Pa Kent should have taught him that instead of hiding because humanity would hate and mistrust him. That was the original sin that messed up the Snyderverse and Zach's achiles heel. He's so into that whole Ayn Rand philosophy that it colors everything he does.

@Goldboink - I think Snyders stuff would have worked if they just gave him 5 self contained movies and the rebooted after. It wasnt classic DC.

Hes into Ayn Rand? How so?

Google The Fountainhead and read the synopsis.

In early 1922, Howard Roark is expelled from the architecture department of the Stanton Institute of Technology because he has not adhered to the school's preference for historical convention in building design.

He has The Fountainhead in pre-production.

It's literally the last decade of his life.

His worldview heres closely with Atlas Shrugged.

Him and that wife of his are all up in that stuff

@Goldboink - I also thought Snyder was pretty left. He at least presented t himself that way. Perhaps it's to help him fit in in Hollywood.

People can be complicated. Creative choices can and often should be divorced from your personal political viewpoints. I don't find his work overtly political I just didn't appreciate his creative choices.

@Goldboink - his work is definitely not very political, (which could be construed as right wing these days) but his comments in interviews veer left, (which could just be cover to preserve his place in hollywood).

I don’t find his movies to be political. Just dark, which is why his sensibilities worked for Watchmen and 300 but not so much for Superman

Actually intrigued.
Although he's getting ahead of himself by blabbing about creating a "universe" around a movie that hasn't been released yet.
