Regarding Zack Snyder's impending Norse mythology anime, Twilight of the Gods, there hasn't been any new information released for quite a while. Netflix's Geeked Week 2021 provided the most recent noteworthy update, revealing the project's voice cast.
But after recently catching up with him, Collider was able to extract a great deal of information from the Rebel Moon filmmaker.
Snyder revealed some key plot points, stating, "It’s basically this: there’s a king and his queen in a small Viking village, and they want to get married. An event happens to them at their wedding that causes Sigrid, who is the bride to be, who is the child of giants, to go on a crazy mission of revenge. She enlists a cast of characters - a seer, a dwarf - and they come together to form a band that has this one mission to find a god and fight him. It’s a mission, it’s a revenge story. Sigrid is this beautiful, very Scandinavian kind of cold but passionate character that I’ve really enjoyed working through and with because she’s just so cool. Sylvia Hoeks voices her."
Snyder continued by confirming that there will be eight episodes in the first season.
He also revealed that the anime will have, "a lot of sex [...] because that’s fun."
The full voice cast for Twilight of the Gods is as follows:
The voice cast features:
- Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049) as SIGRID
- Stuart Martin (Army of Thieves) as LEIF
- Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones, Ghost in the Shell) as THOR
- John Noble (Lord of the Rings, Fringe) as ODIN
- Paterson Joseph (Timeless) as LOKI
- Rahul Kohli (Supergirl, iZombie) as EGILL
- Jamie Clayton (Sense8) as THE SEID-KONA
- Kristopher Hivju (Game of Thrones) as ANDVARI
- Peter Stormare (American Gods, Castlevania) as ULFR
- Jamie Chung (Sucker Punch, Lovecraft Country) as HEL
- Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead) as INGE
- Corey Stoll (Ant-Man, The Strain) as HRAFNKEL
It also appears that Snyder has a greater appreciation for the labors of animation, claiming that if he had known what he knows now, he's not sure he would have agreed to the project. "I just think that it was one of these things that we kind of did not understand, first of all, the rigors of what it would take to make eight episodes of animation. If I had known, I don’t know if I would have done it."
Relatedly, Snyder recently announced that an animated prequel to Army of the Dead would no longer be moving forward.
There's still no release date for Twilight of the Gods but Deborah Snyder, Zack's wife and producer, stated that they just finished the project his past summer and she thinks Netflix is eyeing a 2025 release.
