AHSOKA Adds KING RICHARD Star Eman Esfandi As STAR WARS REBELS Jedi Ezra Bridger

We finally have some news on who will play the live-action Ezra Bridger in Ahsoka as it's been confirmed that relative unknown Eman Esfandi will wield the fan-favourite character's lightsaber in the show.

This news has been a long time coming, but Cinelinx - a site with a solid track record when it comes to Star Wars scoops - has revealed who will play the live-action Ezra Bridger.

It briefly looked like Aladdin star Mena Massoud might have nabbed the part. The character, played by Taylor Gray in Star Wars Rebels, is expected to be front and centre in Ahsoka as the title character finally tracks him down following his and Grand Admiral Thrawn's mysterious disappearance at the end of that animated series.

Alas, things clearly didn't work out for Massoud as The Hollywood Reporter (via SFFGazette.com) confirms that Eman Esfandi (King Richard) has indeed nabbed the part.

We're no expecting the news to be made officially official during Lucasfilm's D23 presentation tomorrow. Esfandi is a relative unknown, but clearly impressed Dave Filoni and has what it takes to do the character he created justice on screen.

It was in The Mandalorian that we first learned Ahsoka Tano is hunting Thrawn, with it then becoming apparent that she hasn't given up on Ezra after he "sacrificed" himself to save his friends from the villainous Imperial.

Talking of Thrawn, there's an update on that front too. Despite previously hearing that Lars Mikkelsen, who voiced the character in Rebels, would not play the live-action version, they're now hearing that he will. We certainly hope that's the case because it's hard to imagine anyone better for the role, especially after Mikkelsen's distinct portrayal of the villain.

D23 is fast approaching and we're expecting to learn more about Ahsoka later today. That may or may not include a trailer, but we certainly expect some casting news for the series at the very least.

The series is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.

I don’t really know much of his work outside his small role in King Richard. He certainly looks the part.

Really excited to see what they do with the character. I always thought Ezra would become a grey Jedi given he was always being pulled between the light with Kanan and dark side with Maul.

With his excile, I could see him becoming and anti-hero and trying to learn both ways of the force for better and worse.

@MrDandy - I kinda hope he turns more into a swashbucklin hero type, partly because I would argue Hondo was a third influence on his life.

But yeah, grey jedi might make more sense. Although I do think Ahsoka is also already this wise, force-using non-jedi, so I think a contrasting character works better.

@bkmeijer1 - I agree! I could see him taking inspiration from Hondo and becoming a rouge too. That would be a fun direction.

I don’t think of Ahsoka really as a non-Jedi. In fact she may just be the MOST Jedi character of all. She obeys all the tenets and follows the light…she just lost faith in the bureaucracy of the order.

Mikkelsen is awesome, hope that rumor is on the level.

I like that look with a yellow jacket in the image for Ezra. Reminds me of Luke at the end of "A New Hope"

@Repian - didn't even think of that, but yeah nice catch.

Wish they had Luke walk around in that outfit more. Star Wars doesn't have enough leather jackets, let alone colorful leather jackets.

@Repian - That’s what I first thought too after seeing it. I wonder if he did it on purpose.

I'm not familiar with him, but if he can do the swashbucklin Ezra I wanna see I'm happy. Think that would be a nice contrast to Ahsoka's more 'wise master' characterization.

In his Instagram post, it looked like he just snapped away half of all life and is now looking down on a grateful universe

I'm not familiar with him or his roles, but Congratulations on nabbing the role.

@MyCoolYoung - he's sitting there, looking like he knows what price he had to pay.

As cool as it was seeing Thanos actually sit down and see the sun set on a ''grateful'' universe, I doubt Eman is a sociopath like Thanos though.

Remember when Luke Skywalker was the last hope for the galaxy and the last remaining Jedi after Obi-Wan and Yoda? Those were the days. Now about 100 Jedi survived Order 66 and that's CANON. So Luke is kinda irrevelant in the entire series.

@Yuhio - LOL makes you wonder where the [frick] was Ahsoka's help during the original trilogy. She just left Luke and a couple of rebels to take down the entire empire all on their own.

Don't know much about this guy but I'm so glad it's not Mena Massoud, he was such a mediocre actor in Aladdin imo.
