The first season of Ahsoka concluded with its exciting (you can check out our spoiler review here) finale, "The Jedi, The Witch and The Warlord," last week. While it's probably going to be quite a while before we see the Star Wars Rebels heroes back on our screens, Lucasfilm has now shared some stunning concept art from the 8-episode series.

The artwork highlights several key moments from the show, including Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren and their old friend Ezra Bridger doing battle with the zombified Night Troopers, Grand Admiral Thrawn surveying his army on Peridea, the interior of Ahsoka's ship, the crab-like Noti species who befriended Ezra, and more.

We also have an early concept design for what will almost certainly be remembered as a highlight of the season: Ahsoka encountering her old master Anakin Skywalker in the mysterious World Between Worlds.

Ahsoka has yet to be officially renewed for a second season, but given how the recent finale wrapped up, we'd say it's only a matter of time before Lucasfilm makes an announcement. Even if it doesn't return, Dave Filoni's Star Wars movie is expected to serve as a culmination of the events of these Disney+ show.

Check out the concept art at the links below, and be sure to let us know what you made of the first season of Ahsoka in the comments section.

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

The series stars Rosario Dawson in the title role, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, with Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

Kevin Kiner was announced as the series' composer.

Ahoska is written by executive producer Dave Filoni, alongside executive producers Favreau, Kennedy, Wilson, and Beck. Gilchrist is co-executive producer. The series’ directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel and Rick Famuyiwa.

This art alone has more emotion and intensity than anything the show gave us...

@BB8ANG - Maybe, but still better than sequel trilogy and Book of Boba and most of the Mandolorian. Andor still at the top for me (disney era)

@UniqNo - Still hard to believe they turned Boba into a mayor.

@UniqNo - Disagree on the Mando, I'd put it on the same league as Obi-Wan and BoBF. Just bland shows with nothing interesting to show or tell. Andor of course still reigns supreme, no contest

@BB8ANG - Even though Ashoka tied to Skywalker (again) its at least expanding on some new lore around the force. I csn get into that. Mandos here then there and then on another side quest. Got boring. Kenobi had so much potential but messed it all up. I feel if it was a movie it wouldn't have bothered with all the Lea stuff which would have been better.

@UniqNo - I liked the Leia stuff. Think instead they should've left the Reva and Luke stuff out

Zombie troopers were so cringey. Apparently lightsabers can’t cut their limbs off. 🤣🤦‍♂️👎

The stormtroopers reminded me of the actors at great america and six flags around halloween. Scene didnt feel intense enough because they fire rounds off every 5 seconds, They never show what a saber does against a stun round

Definitely like this one the most (both as concept art, and moment in the show)

@bkmeijer1 - Yeah, that was pretty cool. Also, the other thing that I found interesting in this episode was the whole deal with the Death Troopers. Like, if I understood the dialogue correctly between Thrawn and the Night Sisters, it seems that that squad of troopers volunteered to be reanimated by the Night Sisters' dark magic into zombies when/if they were killed in battle. So far in popular sci-fi media I haven't encountered that concept (I'm sure that it's already been done before), but the whole idea that you sign a waiver that says "Sure, if I'm cut down in battle you have my permission to resurrect me as an undead monster" is kinda compelling.

But maybe that's just my obsession with the undead. Speaking of which, Halloween is getting close and I have digging to do...

@StSteven - I forgot about that, but that is a cool bit of insight? Maybe they keep their mind intact, but are in a state of constant pain or something. Could see that tie into why the coffins are a big deal.
StSteven
StSteven - 10/13/2023, 5:37 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Well, as I recall after they came back they could fight about as well as they could before they died (which still isn't saying much for Storm Troopers), so they must retain some intelligence (kinda like the Marvel Zombies) or are reanimated by something (a spirit or magical being of some sort) that has enough of a mind to fight as opposed to just trying to bite you like most zombies.

As for the coffins, I kinda leaning toward the theory that they are full of dead Night Sisters waiting to be resurrected which is why they headed to their home planet (I'm assuming that they can only be resurrected via some spell that has to be performed on that planet).
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 10/13/2023, 5:43 PM
@StSteven - I think it'd be cool if they were like the death troopers in Death Troopers, where their intelligence grows over time. They start out mindless, but they end up flying x-wings (yes that really happens).

As for the coffins, I'm sticking to death stormtroopers. Kinda like how Thrawn used Wayland to grow an army for the Katana fleet in the books, I'm assuming he's doing the same on Dathomir.
StSteven
StSteven - 10/13/2023, 10:25 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Well, there's also the not-quite-in-canon example of "Warm Bodies" which clearly proved that zombies can actually come back to life. So we have that to go by.

Regarding the coffins, you're clearly better versed in the books than I am, so I'll yield to your expertise in that area. I will however, restate that I find it interesting that whatever Thrawn and the Night Sisters (which he's obviously bringing along for a reason) are planning, it has to do with Dathomir specifically, which makes me wonder if he's just looking to resurrect an army of Storm Troopers, why the focus on that planet (unless that's where the Night Sisters need to go to summon up enough magical juju to raise an army of that size?).
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 10/14/2023, 3:28 AM
@StSteven - there's probably more magical juice to resurrect them is my guess. Whether that is for the stormtroopers or the Nightsisters.

As for the books, I'm listening to the audiobooks recently (think I mentioned that elsewhere also?). There are a few on Spotify, including the novelization of Revenge of the Sith.
StSteven
StSteven - 10/14/2023, 2:18 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Yeah, either way I'm thinking that Dathomir is going to be a pretty freaky looking place with lots of interesting secrets so I'm looking forward to seeing it and what they're planning on doing there (knowing Thrawn I think a No Pants Party is a given - he just looks like that kind of guy).

And yeah you mentioned that you're listening to the books. You'll have to let me know what, if any, of the Train Trilogy/Heir to the Empire series actually make it from the page to the screen.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 10/14/2023, 2:58 PM
@StSteven - seeing how floppy Thrawn's pants are, I kinda doubt he's going for a NPP. Maybe a No Pants -except Imperial pants- Party?

And I'll probably spam the articles by then how much it differs (and how well I think it works), so I'm sure you'll know.
StSteven
StSteven - 10/14/2023, 3:12 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Yeah, not sure what he needs all that extra pocket space for in those pants. Maybe he just carries a lot of change around with him so that he's prepared in case they come up to one of those Imperial toll booths like in "Blazing Saddles" ("Palpatine Throughway?!? Now what'll that asshole think up next? Does anybody have a dime? Somebody's gotta go back and get a shitload of dimes!").
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 10/14/2023, 5:47 PM
@StSteven - for a galaxy that advanced, it's odd they don't have credit cards (money in the Star Wars universe is even refered to as credits ffs!)
StSteven
StSteven - 10/14/2023, 6:55 PM
@bkmeijer1 - I know, right? I mean it's right there in the name people! But to be honest, I'm not surprised. I mean, the Jedi are supposed to be among the most powerful beings in the galaxy and they look like the can't even afford to shop at a Ross store. I mean how f**king hard is it to Jedi mind trick yourself a decent pair of pants for Christ's sake! They all dress like they're either going to or coming from a swingers party at Hugh Hefner's place. Which probably explains the lack of credit cards. Where would they keep them? I don't see any pockets in those bath robes. And THAT'S how we know that Thrawn will eventually win: the dude has pockets. Did Vader have pockets? Nope. Palpatine? Hella no. And remember that Luke had to finally graduate to Jedi Master in "RotJ" to get a decent outfit which I'm sure had plenty of... pockets!

So that's why I'm convinced that Thrawn will succeed where the rest have failed. I mean look at those f**king things! Those pockets he's got there practically go down to his knees. He could be carrying around anything in there. Along with the afore mentioned tollway change he could have a comb (his hair does always look good), roadmaps, some Gummi Bears, a half-eaten Snickers bar, cell phone charging cable, obviously the garage door opener for his ship, the plans for the new Death Star that he will inevitably try to build when he finds out what happened to the other ones, etc. Anything!

So despite all their so-called knowledge and power that's the one thing that the Jedi will NOT ever be able to know: what's in Thrawn's pants and when will he whip it out. And THAT... is why he'll ultimately win.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 10/15/2023, 3:44 AM
@StSteven - now that you nring that up, I don't think I ever saw a pocket in a Star Wars project. Could be quite useful, especially against Thrawn
StSteven
StSteven - 10/15/2023, 6:50 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Nope. Can't think of a single pocket myself either. And that's all it takes: "One pocket to rule them all". I was just rewatching "The Mask" the other day with my kids and I'm reminded of when the cops are arresting him and emptying his his pockets and they're just pulling all kinds of shit out of them for like 10 minutes. That's what I'm thinking Thrawn's got going on in his Imperial clown pants: a bowling pin, a small mouth bass, a rat trap, a rubber chicken, x-ray glasses, a bazooka, a picture of Anakin's wife, etc.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 10/16/2023, 2:05 AM
@StSteven - who knows those things exist as well in the Star Wars universe
StSteven
StSteven - 10/16/2023, 3:23 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Good point. If pockets don't exist there who knows what else they might be lacking. I'm starting to think I may need to change my travel plans cause this place is starting to sound pretty boring. On the other hand I could make some serious cash selling pockets and cartoon gag items. Oh shit! I forgot they don't use cash (where would they keep it anyway?). Alright, forget it. Guess I'll just go hang out with the meth-gators in Florida. See what a lack of pockets can lead to?!?
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 10/16/2023, 4:35 PM
@StSteven - I don't like what this lack of pockets has led to. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I don't have methgators to hang out with. Methwolfs at best
StSteven
StSteven - 10/16/2023, 8:46 PM
@bkmeijer1 - It's a slippery slope for sure. I mean, one minute you're planning a lovely holiday in a galaxy far, far away. Then you find out about the lack of pockets and all of a sudden you're like "But where am I going to keep my wallet? My cell phone? My AirPods? My Chiclets? My Anti-Jawa Spray(TM)? My Rancor Snacks(TM)? My spare Kyber crystals? Where?!? And don't even suggest using a backpack, because as we all know the only time packs of any kind (either back or side) are used in the Skywalker galaxy are for carrying around Yoda things and mutilated droids, and I have neither. So I'm basically screwed.

Which is why I'll likely end up taking my holiday instead hanging out with the meth-gators under a pier in Tampa. They're pretty cool to hang out with as long as you don't get them all riled up about global politics. And "Happy Gilmore". After all these years that movie still touches a nerve with those guys. And, hell, on the plus side, regardless of which pier you pick there's usually a strip club across the street in case you need to cash a check for some more meth. I mean, it's not Coruscant, but it sure as hell ain't Dagobah either!
