AHSOKA: Will Hayden Christensen's Anakin Skywalker Ultimately Be Unveiled As [SPOILER]?

We're just hours away from what promises to be an eventful fifth episode of Ahsoka, and one of the many rumors doing the rounds is claiming that Anakin Skywalker is actually... spoilers ahead!

The closing moments of last week's episode of Ahsoka confirmed previous reports that Hayden Christensen would reprise the role of Anakin Skywalker for The Mandalorian spin-off show, but his brief appearance in "Fallen Jedi" left fans with a lot more questions than answers.

When Ahsoka was flung from the cliff (seemingly to her death) by Baylan Skoll after their lightsaber duel, she awoke in the "World Between Worlds," only to be greeted by her former master looking as he would back in The Clone Wars days.

Potential spoilers follow.

Is he a Force Ghost? Part of a flashback? Or something else entirely?

One rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that this incarnation of the man who would ultimately turn to the dark side of the Force and become Darth Vader is actually a Mortis God. If you haven't watched The Clone Wars or Star Wars Rebels animated shows, you may have no idea what that is, so here's a quick explanation.

Also known as "The Ones," the Mortis Gods were a family of three immensely powerful Force-wielders, made up of The Father, The Daughter, and The Son. Together, these three ancient beings represented the living embodiment of the Force.

In The Clone Wars, The dying Father lured Anakin Skywalker to Mortis after hearing rumors that he was the Chosen One in the hopes of passing on the responsibility of keeping the light and dark sides of the Force in balance.

Anakin passed the test, but ultimately refused to take up the mantle, setting him on the path to becoming Vader. Is it possible that, in death, Anakin finally brought balance to the force and took his rightful place as The Father?

We only have a few hours to go before we find out in what is shaping up to be a hugely eventful fifth episode. For now, be sure to share your theories with us in the comments, and check out a brief recap video below.

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

The series stars Rosario Dawson in the title role, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, with Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

Kevin Kiner was announced as the series' composer.

Ahoska is written by executive producer Dave Filoni, alongside executive producers Favreau, Kennedy, Wilson, and Beck. Gilchrist is co-executive producer. The series’ directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel and Rick Famuyiwa.

If he's a Force Ghost, it really doesn't make sense. Why would have have a lightsaber if he's a ghost? And why would be wearing his Episode III outfit instead of the traditional Jedi robes he wears in ROTJ?

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Probably because what she is seeing is the Force using her last memory of him.I don't believe that's really Anakin....it's probably The Force using a memory she has of Anakin so she can move on from her mistake so she can become what the will of the Force wants her to become.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - That was answered by George Lucas.

"In an event where George Lucas and Hayden Christensen interviewed each other and answered fan queries, Lucas explained that the reason why Anakin's Force Ghost is young is that he metaphorically died after becoming Vader — an idea reinforced by Darth Vader himself during Obi-Wan Kenobi. This was a notable revelation on how Force Ghosts in Star Wars work. When Anakin was redeemed upon saving Luke in Return of the Jedi, his "inner person would go back to where we left it off." Additionally, Lucas thought replacing the original Anakin Force Ghost with Christensen would help to connect the prequels and originals, bringing it full circle."

@NinnesMBC - I'm not questioning why he looks like Hayden, I'm questioning why he's wearing his Episode III outfit, when in ROTJ, he's wearing original white and brown Jedi robes.

Not gonna lie that's some pretty heavy SW lore to digest. But it's pretty much an unanimous agreement in the community that Anakin did finally bring balance to the Force when he died in RoTJ by saving Luke from Palpatine by sacrificing himself. So perhaps that's the leeway into this.

What about the other family members of that make up those Mortis Gods? Are the positions of Daughter and Son filled in or are they vacant? I feel that we should also know about them if Filoni is gonna deep-dive into that.

If it turns out to be true then Anakin is about to dump a lot of that information to Ahsoka, unless he shared all that with her at some point of The Clone Wars series.

All that matters is how it's executed though, so I'm hyped and curious to see where things go tonight.

He is not a Force Ghost. His line about "Being there already" while Ahsoka's back was turned, indicates he got trapped there and thought she came to get him. Then she turned. His expression looked like he was slightly puzzled, probably because he noticed she looked different than when he knew her.

he is probably just a Dark illusion (sith magic) who will trick and attack female luke skywalker but female lady luke will over power him and break the illusion using her super female force strenght because sh1t.

Or maybe he is just Anakin… if Anakin’s spirit died when Vader took over the body it might explain why his force ghost returns younger in the Star Wars OT updated versions.

Also, if this is a sort of limbo, it also explains how his soul returned as it never fully transitioned across to Jedi Heaven

@Knightrider - his spirit didn't die. he's still Anikan.

He could have been pulled from the past somehow (maybe Ezra did it before he vanished with Thrawn) and is lingering in the WBW. Eventually he will go back nut only after he shows Ahsoka that, like him, no matter what course of action she takes, things would turn out the same way.

Anakin is like Vader was to Luke on Dagobah, he’s not real. It’s a Jedi test. Luke fought Vader and cut his head off, only for him to see himself after the helmet exploded open. Ahsoka is seeing what’s inside herself, her fears, her feelings, nothing more.
