STAR WARS: TALES OF THE JEDI - Dave Filoni On Ending Yaddle's Story And Casting Bryce Dallas Howard - SPOILERS

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi showrunner Dave Filoni breaks down his approach to ending Yaddle's story, while also explaining what made Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard the best choice to play her.

If you're a Star Wars fan, then you'll more than likely remember Yaddle best from The Phantom Menace. The same species as Yoda, she's a character who generated a lot of discussion among fans over the years; some of that was good, and some was bad, but we never did get to see the Jedi Master again after the 1999 movie.

Ever since, we've wondered what became of her, and Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi finally provided some answers earlier this week. In the animated show, we learn Yaddle was murdered by Count Dooku shortly after Qui-Gon Jinn's death (as a result of her discovering his alliance with Sith Lord Darth Sidious).

Talking to Nerdist (via SFFGazette.com), Tales of the Jedi showrunner Dave Filoni addressed Yaddle's brutal demise.

"Yaddle’s compassionate. Yaddle, up to the very end, is trying to give Dooku an out," he explains. "She’s attempting to give him a way to just say, ‘I’m sorry.' But there’s two sides of it there where she’s saying, ‘None of that matters. Just come with me now, and you can right this terrible wrong you’re about to do.’ And Sidious is like, ‘You can’t trust her. You know you can’t trust her. You came to me because you couldn’t trust them.'"

"Yaddle has a great heart and she perseveres," Filoni continued. "And for a moment when she lifts the door, Dooku looks at her, and he sees the truth - the truth of what a powerful, good, benevolent person she is."

Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard lends her voice to Yaddle in Tales of the Jedi, and she's no stranger to the Star Wars Universe after directing episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. In Filoni's eyes, there was no one better to bring this Jedi to life than the actress and filmmaker.

"Bryce is a big fan of what we’ve done in animation over the years. I’d love to get her to direct something in animation," he enthuses. "She loves Star Wars, she knows the world well. I started working on these, and I thought, ‘Hey, you should do the voice of Yaddle. It’d be really fun. It’s not like a massive commitment, obviously, because I’ve got to kill her."

Now, we're sure you're wondering why Yaddle doesn't talk like Yoda, and Filoni offered an explanation...of sorts. "Does she speak backwards? I’m like, ‘No, I don’t think so. I think that’s a Yoda thing.' Frank Oz told me once that Yoda speaks that way specifically in honor of his own master. That was what he had thought about it."

So, the whole talking backwards thing is exclusive to Yoda (and potentially his Master). That is interesting, and something we hope will be further explored down the line.

All six episodes of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi are now streaming on Disney+.

This episode was enjoyable for sure. Always wondered what happened with Yaddle. Would have love to played that character in Jedi Power Battles, a fun PS1 video game that should get updated and rerelease.

@Arrows - I agree, I remember how I much enjoyed playing that game in cooperative mode. But if they rerelease it, they should adjust the difficulty.

Yaddle is so [frick]ing sexy 🥵 Sexiest character in sci-fi for sure. I wish Filoni would give the fans what they want by giving us a nude scene.

Dooku stuff was great, Ahsoka stuff was okay. Idk why they decided to do clone wars Ahsoka when they could have done stuff during her fulcrum days(though she technically no longer a Jedi) Qui Gon or Quinlen would have been a better choice for episodes 1,5 and 6

If Bryce is playing a character then that character should have an ass that won’t quit , not lady yoda

The Dooku episodes were heavy, i wanted more of him once the show was done, Ashoka was great specially the first ep but the Dooku ones were a highlight.

Now gimme a Jango Fett: Tales of The Bounty Hunters or even one focused on Grevious.

It was basically the Dooku/Ashoka show. I was hoping for more stories about some of the other Jedi… 🤷‍♂️

Really liked Tales of the Jedi, hoping for more, either with the same characters or others. I wonder if Filoni could redeem (imo) the sequel trilogy the way he did the prequel…
