Disney+ has revealed the full cast for The Acolyte (via SFFGazette.com), the upcoming original Star Wars TV series from Lucasfilm. While the trades have recently reported on a few noteworthy casting additions, the official list makes for impressive reading and includes a pleasant surprise in the form of The Matrix and Jessica Jones star Carrie Anne Moss!

Joining her and the previously announced Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) are Emmy Award-winner Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto (Nine Perfect Strangers), Dafne Keen (Logan), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), and Dean-Charles Chapman (1917).

A synopsis for The Acolyte has also been released, though it appears to both confirm and contradict recent plot leaks.

The show is described as, "a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated."

Rumour has it the series would focus on a Dark Side disciple as she trains to become a Sith apprentice, but it sounds like the story will actually take place from the point of view of a Jedi. This could be a misdirect, of course, and the show - which takes place before The Phantom Menace - is still shrouded in secrecy.

From creator, showrunner and executive producer Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), The Acolyte has now begun production in the UK. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King and Jason Micallef. Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson are producing. Headland will also direct the series pilot.

The Acolyte will stream exclusively on Disney+, though a premiere date has yet to be revealed. You can take a closer look at the cast, and that first behind-the-scenes photo, below.

I’m guessing the crimes are tied to the reemergence of the long thought vanquished Sith. Maybe the Padawan becomes seduced during the investigation.

Being that is Kathleen Kennedy’s should we expect this to be the Wokeolyte?

@TyrantBossMedia - Dude: it's always Kathleen Kennedy, even the stuff you like.

@DetBullock - Some things she is more hands on involved in and those usually are the bad things.

@TyrantBossMedia - spoiler alert : the men are the villians!!

Aha…I’m just trolling, I am actually really looking forward to this! Really cool premise, I think Carry Ann Moss would make a slick with bad guy.

@TyrantBossMedia - Please, stop throwing the woke nonsense at things for so little information, so far. I think it's like hearing extreme SJW types throw the word nazi around at so many things, to me.

Nice! Talented and diverse cast. Keep the tight writing of Andor going forward, and this could truly be a hit

@Vigor - Diversity isn't really what I think is the point. The talent however? I'm wanting something quality, something interesting, engaging and compelling. Not like TBOBF and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

@dagenspear - They see diversity first. He just tipped his hand. That shows you they don't care about quality. They care about agenda first.

These are the same people who dare question me when I call them out on their B-S.

that's one hell of a cast, hope it is as thrilling as Andor, cause Andor's some really good [frick]ing food.

I wanna see something quality here, guys. Give me something in vein of Andor's quality, with the crowdpleasing elements of Mandalorian, I'm down.

I think of "the name of the rose" in the Star Wars universe. Also, it would be interesting if the Jedi Master has returned to the light from the dark side. Thus, the Master has extensive knowledge of the dark side that will allow him to solve these ritualistic murders.

The Jedi Master struggles to overcome the past as he tries to regain trust with the Jedi Council.

"From creator, showrunner and executive producer Leslye Headland".

Who is Leslye and what is her background? Who did she work with as their personal assistant for many years and then praised them even after all that disgusting and predatory behavior was made public and was no longer just a well known open-secret in Hollywood?
