Season 3 of The Mandalorian ended up dividing Star Wars fans to a large extent, but it's fair to say we all appreciated learning more about how Grogu escaped from the Jedi Temple during Order 66.
Many theories have done the rounds in recent years, but it was Ahmed Best's Jedi Kelleran Beq who managed to take The Child to safety. We don't know what happened after they left Coruscant, but this cameo marked a triumphant return to the franchise for the Jar-Jar Binks actor who contemplated taking his own life after the vitriol directed at him by many so-called "fans."
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly (via SFFGazette.com), Dave Filoni weighed in on the chances of us seeing the Jedi Knight again. "It's always a possibility," he teased. "We love Ahmed, and he did such a great job. It was a real thrill for us to get him involved."
"We talked with [Ahmed] about it," the Ahsoka showrunner continued. "We come up with these ideas and we think: Who might work with it? We make sure before we get too far to bring them into the process, so it's not just like, 'Here's who you're going to play.' It's like, 'What do you think of this? We want you to be this person. What are your thoughts on it?'"
"[We try to] make it a real collaboration and think it's really key to the success of it."
The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau also weighed in by saying, "I think people dig seeing that character. I want to learn more about that character."
In the years following that dramatic escape, we know something happened which led to Grogu ending up in the hands of the Empire and those mercenaries. That likely means Beq's story ended in tragedy, though there are still plenty of gaps to fill in before we reach his demise.
With any luck, all of this will be addressed in The Mandalorian's planned fourth season. The scripts are thought to have been written, hopefully meaning the WGA strike has a minimal impact on when we'll see the show return to Disney+.
Are you looking forward to seeing more of Kelleran Beq?
