THE MANDALORIAN Season 2 Concept Art Shows A JUDGE DREDD-Inspired Design For The Returning Boba Fett

THE MANDALORIAN Season 2 Concept Art Shows A JUDGE DREDD-Inspired Design For The Returning Boba Fett

When Boba Fett returned in The Mandalorian, it was with clothing and weaponry that was clearly inspired by the Tusken Raiders. In this newly revealed concept art, the bounty hunter gets another makeover.

In The Mandalorian's first season, fans were left convinced that Boba Fett had returned when a mysterious figure approached the downed Fennec Shand. In season 2, we'd learn that it was indeed the iconic bounty hunter, and we then followed Fett's quest to regain his armour from Din Djarin.

The Book of Boba Fett showed us more of Fett's journey, revealing both what came next for the character and what he was up to in the years following his escape from the Sarlacc Pit.

Lucasfilm character designer Brian Matyas (via SFFGazette.com) has now shared some very early concept art from Fett's return in The Mandalorian. As you can see, he's completely unrecognisable, with his Tusken Raider gear switched out for a uniform that instantly brings back memories of what Max Von Sydow's Chief Justice Fargo donned in Judge Dredd opposite Sylvester Stallone.

According to the artist, these were "desert nomad costume explorations" for a take on Fett that was going to differ greatly from what ended up in The Mandalorian when the bounty hunter returned. Matyas has also shared some designs for how Fett's armour would have been affected by the time he spent inside the Sarlacc.

Wasn’t a fan of how much time we spent with bald, maskless Boba in his show. Just felt like some guy. Even the new armor just isnt quite the same. The mystery and allure of the character is gone now and just feels like they wasted whatever potential there really was

I can appreciate them adding some depth to the character, but the writing just made him come off as boring more times than not outside of flashbacks.

Season 1 was too short for the story they were trying to tell. Also wish he spent more time with the helmet on, maybe talked a tad less.

Some characters just shouldn’t be fleshed out. Mystique is everything for some characters.

@OldMan - Funny, because Mystique was another character that shouldn't have been fleshed out.

Keep the [frick] away from judge Dredd! One of my fav comic characters and knows where he stands in his world. Fett is just some guy they decided “wouldn’t it be cool if we turned him good?” And forget that he casually killed people for money. Why do writers these days feel the need to change old or core characters so much?

Wasn't half of this art featured in an article just yesterday? Now it's been recycled for a new article because it resembles Judge Dredd...which it doesn't.

Still don't understand the title of the Book of Boba Fett at all. What is it a book of?

It spanned only 2 different timelines and featured all the same characters. Could have been a nice anthology with new story/characters each episode and the only constant being Fett himself and Fennec.
