The Mandalorian season 3 saw Katee Sackhoff's Bo-Katan Kryze take centre stage, a bold move on the show's part when much of her history has played out in animated TV shows like The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.
During a recent interview with Kristian Harloff (via SFFGazette.com), the actress acknowledged the challenges presented by throwing fans into the deep end with the character. Explaining that the lack of live-action backstory all came down to time - in hindsight, it might have been a smarter move to devote an episode to Bo-Katan rather than Doctor Pershing - Sackhoff said the Nite Owl's past could be revisited "in a different time and a different place."
As for scenes that were shot and subsequently cut from The Mandalorian's third season, she revealed: "You know when Bo gives her speech of ‘We’re gonna get back Mandalore’ with two different clans? That scene was much longer. That scene was super long."
"This is the rousing thing, you’re inspiring these two separate clans to get out there and go retake their homeworld. It has to be emotional, it has to be big, and for whatever reason it got cut down a lot. I wish they’d given more context to what’d happened right before, because I think that it would have made that speech land heavier."
It's unclear when Bo-Katan will return, though Sackhoff believes it's "possible" we'll see her in Ahsoka. "I’ve said this from day one - as long as she’s alive, it works in this world. So I don’t know, we’ll have to see. It’s definitely above my paygrade, but it’s possible."
The actress also confirmed that she only learned about Dave Filoni's Star Wars movie plans when we did but admitted that there had already been talks about some sort of event to bring all these characters and TV shows together.
"That has definitely been in conversations between Dave, Jon, and I," Sackhoff says. "And they’ve talked to other people about it, and they’ve talked to me as well. So I knew it was coming, [but] I have no idea what it’s about. I have no idea who’s in it."
With any luck, we'll learn more about plans for Bo-Katan in the Star Wars Universe sooner rather than later. The character has become a huge hit with fans after The Mandalorian season 3, and a spin-off certainly wouldn't go amiss before that movie.
