THE MANDALORIAN Star Giancarlo Esposito Didn't Know About Luke Skywalker's Return During Shooting

The Mandalorian's season 2 finale saw Mark Hamill reprise the role of Luke Skywalker, but Moff Gideon actor Giancarlo Esposito admits that he was among those with no idea who that mystery Jedi really was.

It's no secret that the cast of The Mandalorian wasn't clued into the fact that Mark Hamill reprised his role as Luke Skywalker in the season 2 finale, with even the show's leads under the belief it was Plo Koon. Lucasfilm had to do everything possible to keep the cameo under wraps, of course, and just like that big reveal with The Child in the premiere, there wasn't a single leak beforehand.

Screen Rant recently caught up with Moff Gideon himself, Giancarlo Esposito, to discuss his role in Far Cry 6 and asked the actor if he was made aware of the big Luke Skywalker twist in advance.

"I got to tell you, they're so good at keeping secrets and allowing us to know just enough, but not enough to be able to really get what's happening. None of us knew," the actor admitted. "I mean, it is such a great thing that they're able to keep the lid on that."

"I know that they trusted us to not let it out in the world, but I think by virtue of the fact that it was such a secret, it also gave us the ability to surprise ourselves."

It would have been all too easy for one of The Mandalorian's cast members to let something slip about Hamill's return, so this level of secrecy is perfectly understandable. It's also rare for actors to be surprised by the projects they're working on, and the cast getting to experience this reveal alongside the rest of us was no doubt a very special feeling (it's a truly great moment in Star Wars history).

We recently spoke to Bo-Katan Kryze actress Katee Sackhoff about the scene, and you can find what she had to tell us about that and possible season 3 plans for her character by clicking here
