Deadline reports that The CW has handed down early renewals to a number of its scripted TV shows. All American, Kung Fu, Nancy Drew, Riverdale, and Walker are among them, but the two we're sure most of you will be most interested in are The Flash and Superman & Lois.
While it's commonplace for the network to hand out early renewals as soon as January, things are a little different this year because The CW is expected to get a new majority owner. That's likely to give them a say in renewal decisions, and some shows are currently on the bubble.
While The Flash will return for season 9 and Superman & Lois is getting a third year on the network, the trade notes that there are "question marks" surrounding the futures of Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman, which recently wrapped up their seventh and third seasons, respectively.
The former just concluded with a big Booster Gold tease, though Batwoman has become extremely divisive among fans since attempting to reinvent villains like The Joker and Poison Ivy. As for Stargirl, that show's third season has yet to premiere, so it's too soon for news on a fourth.
The key word here for these renewals is "early," so there's really no need to worry too much about Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman just yet. However, the fact that The Flash and Superman & Lois' futures have already been confirmed prove those shows are bigger priorities for the network.
While none of the Arrowverse properties are the ratings draw they once were, they remain a key part of The CW's programming schedule and perform well on streaming after airing weekly.
