GOODBYE, MYSTIC FALLS - In the aftermath of Alaric (Matt Davis) and Jo's (guest star Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) powerful nuptials, things take a dramatic turn when an uninvited guest shows up, leaving Elena (Nina Dobrev) in terrible jeopardy. Despite Matt's (Zach Roerig) advice to leave town to protect herself, a defiant Bonnie (Kat Graham) takes matters into her own hands after finding herself on the receiving end of a twisted plan. As Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola) reach an emotional crossroad in their relationship, a reunion with Liv (guest star Penelope Mitchell) leaves Tyler (Michael Trevino) faced with a decision that could change his life forever. Meanwhile, Lily's (guest star Annie Wersching) reckless actions cause Stefan to realize the lengths to which his mother will go to reunite with her "family." Finally, after a devastating chain of events, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is forced to make the most difficult decision of his life. Michael Malarkey also stars. Chris Grismer directed the episode written by Julie Plec & Caroline Dries (#622).

After a big time jump, the premiere opens with Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) still gone. While their whereabouts will be revealed quickly, the question of what happened while they were there will be a season-long arc. Elena (Nina Dobrev) will be grieving over the loss of Damon by making some surprising choices and bonding with Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Alaric (Matt Davis), who does some bonding of his own with a woman he meets. Get ready for a handful of new faces, including a militia leader (Colin Ferguson) and a tough doctor at the university hospital (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe). Matt (Zach Roerig) will be thriving as he gets involved in the new magic-less community, while Tyler (Michael Trevino), now back to a human with the werewolf gene, will return to his testosterone-filled, hard-headed personality. Will he reconnect with Caroline (Candice Accola), whom executive producer Julie Plec says will take the loss of Bonnie and Damon "in a weird way the hardest"?

The Vampire Diaries features:

They might as well end it after next season. They've been dragging out the story for so long and with Nina leaving its just another sign that they should end it.
I mean, how many shows last after the lead leaves?

Only way I can see it going on is them focusing on the Salvatore brothers but then it'll just be like another Supernatural.

Just bring over the cast members that want to stay to the Originals.

Should have happened sooner.

Tho i have heard that Ian was going to leave too but i'm not sure about that one.
Would have been awesome
if they could keep Ian and have the show center more on those two.

Why are Vampire Diaries articles always on the main page? Was Vampire Diaries a comic series before it was a tv show?

@TheRandomOne
Agreed, the show had it's good seasons but it's time to finish the story. Honestly all I want for the series finale is for Kathrine to con her way out of "hell" and come back(and hopefully she'll be over Stefan and move on, hopefully Nina can guest star just for that.).

This seems like an article that CBM gets paid to write and put on the front page. It is essentially a commercial for the show.
