VENOM And FANTASTIC FOUR Will Have To Wait, Josh Trank To Direct THE RED STAR For WB

Sony wants Trank for Venom, Fox reportedly wants him for their Fantastic Four reboot, yet it look's like Warner Bros. has won the Josh Trank sweepstakes.

Many assumed that Josh Trank (27) would follow up his break-out hit film, Chronicle with a major studio blockbuster. However, it was assumed that it would be adapting a new take Marvel's first family, The Fantastic Four for 20th Century Fox. However, Sony jumped into the fray, reportedly seeking the young filmmaker to re-imagine Venom for a solo film, after a less than stellar representation in Spider-Man 3.

However, neither studio was able to corral Trank it seems as his next film will indeed be a comic book adaption, however it will be for Warner Bros. and on the little-known comic book series The Red Star, which was originally at Universal Pictures. Jason Rothenberg (The Twilight Zone) will write the script for the comic originally written by Christian Gossett. Neal Moritz (I Am Legend, 21 Jump Street, Prison Break) will produce.

No word yet on whether Fox or Sony will wait for Trank to finish Red Star for WB or if they will move on to a different director for their projects.

Seeing as how Trank took a film with a $12 million dollar budget and turned it into a $116 million dollar success I hope either Sony or Fox (hell both) wait for Trank to finish up Red Star instead of looking at other directors.

The Red Star is a comic book series by Christian Gossett set in a sci-fi/fantasy world described by Gossett as "Mythic [Soviet] Russia". The "Lands of The Red Star" were inspired by both Russian folklore and military history. The series is thus heavily reminiscent of a post-World War II Soviet Russia mixing technology and sorcery.

The 'United Republics of the Red Star', often simply called the 'State' in the comic, are shown to be coterminous with the historical Soviet Union in a map at the beginning of the first issue. The main enemy of the first novels, Al'Istaan, is a stand-in for historical Afghanistan and occupies a similar area of the map.

Good, thats more of a chance of fantastic four to go back to marvel

eddie brock venom would work if you introduced him a spider-man film(not spider-man 3 that movie doesn't exist)& then adapted maybe venom lethal protector or venom dark origins.

the flash thompson venom would adapt best to screen, that would be shit hot.

as for the fantastic four,i would love it to be back with marvel studio's but as long as fox doesn't f*ck it up this time round,it can stay with them.

Chronicle was a very good film

They need to make a live-action Akira just like the anime. I'm glad that the one they were planning got canned. It didn't resemble the manga/anime

why do you guys want rights of ff go to marvel, yeah fox did mess up f4 but they are trying to make it right. disney aims for very young audiances (kids), and want to sell toys. most of better movies are from other studios like spiderman from sony,x men from fox and iron man from paramount. i don't want a kid friendly cbm and i don't think except for spidey and some others any cbm be cartoonish

darknlight: How many times, in how many articles, from how many mouths do the words "Disney has no plans to interfear with Marvels movie making process but will assist in marketing and distribution," have to be said before people begin to understand what they actually mean?

The Flash Thompson Venom would be the only real way to make a decent film adaption. And even that would be difficult to pull off.

The problem is Venom's backstory is too convoluted and inconsistent--that and he is a foil for Spider-Man--so any adaptation of Venom is going to be a significant departure from the character the fanboys love and will probably be met with no small amount of disapproval.

@ darknlight

i think mainly people want to see the shared universe expand, how great would it be to see the avengers & the fantastic four in the same movie.

also you get the rights back to the fantastic four you get everyone else that features in that title i.e silver surfer, galactus,dr.doom & the skrulls to just name a few.

star wars was made for kids & look how many adults love that.

There is ZERO need for a solo Venom movie.

1) FF can be a good movie but DOES need to go back to Marvel.

2) Venom needs to be a direct spin off of a GOOD Spider-Man film.

3) That Red Star movie plot sounds AWESOME. I would TOTALLY pay to see that.

never thought that way, yeah it would be cool but i'm getting bored with the cameos. if they do less cameos and more big events then i'd definitely be on board for marvel getting the rights back. the cameo of rdj in incredible hulk made me very excided for hulk vs ironman. i'd like to see the characters to give more than a 1 minute screen time. and thanx
2)hawksblueeyes
every big studio say that but still interrupt. i'll first have to see 2 or more solo movies before judging them.(avengers will be great no matter what) i just wish that paramount bought the rights of marvel. they were great together

Fantastic Four rights + Marvel Studios = Avengers interaction with Silver Surfer and Galactus. BRING IT.

Haven't seen Chronicle yet, but heard it was pretty good. Venom should wait to be re-introduced in TASM movies if a solo movie is to be done.

I need a VENOM movie , its not my fault if people don like dark heros movie , I like them

when I was young I liked spawn , and now its suck , just cuz of special efects

the first Ghost rider sucked cuz it was like super man , no villain no competition.

I never saw a friend who didint liked Punisher War zone , they say [frick] rambo now

if venom is done right , it can be a dam GOOD ALIEN movie , like the clasic Predator he can go invisable

I would incorporate AlienS element to this movie

(ship , base ,parasite , horror)

I think there should be a Super hero movie for all movie type .

punisher /guns ,gangster
venom/ sience fiction,horror
Thor/ fantasy ,conan hercul
Spider man / comedy ot drama
Dr strange / Magic
the should do deathlock robocop/terminator like
Necroxide

venom 1 the transition between good and evil
- a movie that would go a bit like hulk 2

Venom 2 the home world, a symbiote invasion
-labs created or alien invasion
(like all aliens movie ,it seems that the devil push Man to clone them or looking for them and it always goes rong when you play with aliens )

and !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Venom 3 ANTI VENOM
-all the things [frick] up ,"black''venom from 1 and 2 is the evil scorpion cuz Eddy sold it :)

I dream so much about a venom movie that I want 3 of them. XD

Necroxide it is really hard to make sense of what you're saying. I think if they did a venom movie it would be cool if they just gave him all of the powers he has besides the webs thus not needing an origin in a Spider-man film. Also him shooting webs would make no sense since the Marc Webb Spider-man uses web shooters. Best bet is an alien symbiote bonds with a criminal (eddie brock) and a task force is formed to take him down with flash thompson as the leader who figures out his weakness in the final battle. Final scene it brock dead and the symbiote covering thompson. Then in the sequel i guess more symbiotes need tracked and taken down by venom? Carnage?

greychaos13zero in my Hulk 2 type of senario there is a place for Carnage .

at the end of the movie venom need to bound again with is alien costum to fight carnage , just like in the cartoon .
it would be cool if The army would have clone venom and created Carnage who bound with a psychopathe .

Great! From what I've read around the web, FF rights revert back to Marvel at the end of 2013, so let the clock keep ticking!

I dont really have a passion for the new one or the old theyre both cool and that was just a way of making a story that makes sense somewhat without spider-man involved since it wouldnt make sense to bring him into tasm movies. Plus fans of both venoms would get to see their favorite version.

I don't think a solo Venom movie would work well.

Also, I would rather have the FF rights revert back to Marvel then have him direct it while it's at FOX.

@Supes17 - would probably have 3 acts, the first introducing the characters and the plot, the second with its development and the third with the thrill and conclusion. I think that's how it would work more or less.

hehe ok, I'm just buggin' ya. I don't think it would be cool to have it standalone too. Not now.

I don't think that a secondary character that was hated by fans in SM3(Grace) could carry a film on his own lol

This could be a good thing; At least, for Marvel studios that is! Here's hoping that by the time the FF's ready to make a comeback to the bigscreen, it'll be a project properly handled by Marvel/Disney studios!
Aside from that, from what I hear, Disney is indeed keen on having the Fantastic Four in the MCU, seeing as how they really like the idea of the superhero "FAMILY" element which the FF embodies and is so well known for. Here's hoping...
